About

Treta Ke Thakur, also known locally as Tretanath Temple, is an ancient pilgrimage centre located on the serene banks of the Sarayu River in Naya Ghat, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Revered by devotees of Lord Rama, this temple stands as a significant spiritual destination, drawing pilgrims and visitors seeking darshan of Lord Rama along with Goddess Sita, Lakshmana, Bharata, Shatrughna, Lord Hanuman, and Sage Vashishtha.

The temple’s architecture reflects the classic Nagara (North Indian) style, and its rich heritage traces back to the Maratha period. Treta Ke Thakur was rebuilt in 1784 by the Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar, with its original foundation attributed to a Kullu monarch.

A unique aspect of Treta Ke Thakur is its exclusive opening on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi, a festival that falls in October-November. On this auspicious day, the temple remains open for 24 hours, allowing devotees to participate in rituals and seek blessings.

The best time to visit is during the festival season or in the early morning hours between 5 and 8 AM, when the spiritual atmosphere is especially vibrant. Darshan at Treta Ke Thakur is free for all visitors, and poojas are conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi.

The temple recommends conservative attire for both men and women, ensuring that shoulders and knees are covered as a mark of respect. Photography is permitted, but visitors are advised to seek permission before taking photos and to avoid filming during rituals.

Reaching Treta Ke Thakur is convenient for pilgrims. Ayodhya Dham Junction is the nearest railway station, just 2.5 km away, while Ayodhya Cantt is about 8 km from the temple.

For those arriving by air, Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya and Lucknow Airport (130 km away) are the closest options. From the station or bus stand, auto-rickshaws and taxis are easily available to Naya Ghat, from where the temple is a short walk.

Accommodation options near the temple include Amritara Ramila Kutir, ashrams, dharamshalas around Naya Ghat, and hotels along Ram Path, catering to the needs of pilgrims and tourists alike. Public parking is available nearby, though it can become congested during festival times.

Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Naya Ghat, Kanak Bhawan, Hanuman Garhi, Ram Janmabhoomi, and Nageshwarnath Temple, all located within a short distance, making Treta Ke Thakur an essential stop in any Ayodhya pilgrimage itinerary.
