About

Dashrath Mahal, also known by local names such as Dashrath Bhavan, Badi Jagah, Bada Ashtan, Bada Sthan, and Badi Sthan, is a revered ancient temple and pilgrimage centre in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Situated in the heart of Ayodhya at Chowk Ayodhya Road, near Hanuman Garhi in Tulsi Nagar, this temple holds immense significance for devotees of Lord Rama.

The primary deity worshipped here is Lord Rama, accompanied by Maa Sita, Lakshman, Bharat, and Shatrughan, making it a focal point for those seeking darshan of the entire divine family.

The temple’s architecture follows the traditional Nagara (North Indian) style, reflecting the spiritual and cultural heritage of Ayodhya. Dashrath Mahal is recognized as a living heritage temple, drawing pilgrims and visitors throughout the year.

The temple is especially vibrant during major festivals such as Ram Navami Mela (March-April), Deepotsav (Diwali, October-November), Shravan Jhula Mela (July-August), and Kartik Purnima (November), when the atmosphere is filled with devotion and celebration.

Darshan at Dashrath Mahal is accessible to all, with free entry for devotees. The temple is open daily from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, making morning and evening aarti times particularly auspicious for visits.

The best time to visit is during the winter months (November to February), festival seasons, or during the morning and evening poojas. Daily aarti is performed in Hindi and Sanskrit, and traditional prasadam, such as sweets or fruits, is distributed after the rituals.

Annadanam is also provided by nearby akharas and charitable institutions. Visitors are advised to dress modestly, with both men and women recommended to cover shoulders and knees in traditional or modest attire.

Photography is generally allowed in the outer courtyard areas but is strictly forbidden inside the main sanctum or during worship.

Reaching Dashrath Mahal is convenient, with Ayodhya Dham Junction railway station just 1 km away and Maharishi Valmiki International Airport located 8 km from the temple.

Shared autos and e-rickshaws are readily available from the railway station or bus stand, with directions leading towards Hanuman Garhi and Ram Path Road.

Private vehicles can be parked in designated areas outside Ramkot, and e-rickshaws provide easy access to the temple, though the inner premises may be challenging for wheelchair users.

For accommodation, numerous dharamshalas and hotels are available near Hanuman Garhi and on Ram Path in Ayodhya Dham.

Nearby attractions include Shri Hanuman Garhi Mandir, Shree Ramjanmbhumi Temple, Kanak Bhawan, Saryu River Ghat (Ram ki Poudi), and Lata Mangeshkar Chowk, making Dashrath Mahal a central point for a spiritual journey in Ayodhya.
