About

Mankameshwar Temple, also known locally as Mankameshwar Mahadev and Pishach Mochan Tirtha, is a revered ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Situated on the banks of the Yamuna River in Kydganj, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, this temple is a significant pilgrimage centre for devotees seeking spiritual solace and blessings.

The temple’s architecture follows the traditional Nagara (North Indian) style, adding to its serene and historic ambiance. In addition to the primary deity, Lord Shiva, the temple houses shrines for Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Nandi, making it a holistic destination for worshippers.

The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, allowing ample time for devotees to participate in rituals and seek darshan. Free darshan is available to all visitors. Poojas and rituals at Mankameshwar Temple are performed in Sanskrit and Hindi.

The daily schedule includes the Morning Aarti at 6:00 AM and the Evening Aarti between 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM. Devotees can also participate in the Rudrabhishek from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, along with special poojas on Mondays and the Pradosh Pooja held on Saturdays.

The temple is especially vibrant during major festivals such as Maha Shivratri (February-March), Shravan Month (July-August), Navratri (September-October), Kumbh Mela or Magh Mela (January-February), and Nag Panchami.

For those planning a visit, the best times are early morning (5–8 AM), during evening aarti, in the winter months (November to February), or during the festival season. There is no strict dress code, but modest, traditional attire is recommended for both men and women.

Reaching the temple is convenient from Prayagraj Junction (Allahabad Junction - ALD), located just 3.5 km away. Visitors can take an auto-rickshaw or taxi towards Kydganj/Yamuna Bank, passing landmarks like Minto Park to reach the Saraswati Ghat area.

Other nearby railway stations include Dara Ganj (4.5 km) and Prayag Junction (7.5 km). Prayagraj Airport is about 16.5 km away, while Varanasi Airport is 135 km from the temple.

Accommodation options are plentiful, with hotels in Civil Lines or City Center (3–5 km away), guest houses in Kydganj, Daraganj, and near the ghats, as well as the ISKCON Prayagraj guest house approximately 2–3 km away.

Limited informal parking is available near the Yamuna bank and Saraswati Ghat, but local transport is recommended due to congestion. Nearby attractions include Saraswati Ghat, Akbar Fort & Patalpuri Temple, Triveni Sangam, Minto Park, and Shri Adi Shankar Vimana Mandapam.

Photography is generally allowed in the temple premises, though restrictions apply inside the main sanctum. Devotees are offered prasadam such as Bel leaves, flowers, coconut, milk, and sweets, with small-scale distribution taking place regularly.
