About

Alopi Devi Mandir, also known locally as Alop Shankari Devi Shakti Peeth, Alop Mata, and Madhaveshwari, is a revered Shakti Peetha and ancient pilgrimage centre situated on the riverbank in Alopibagh, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

This temple is dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman) and also houses shrines for Nav Durga, Lord Hanuman, and Lord Shiva, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings and darshan.

The temple is renowned for its Nagara (North Indian) architectural style and holds a unique place among the sacred sites of Prayagraj.

Its mythological roots and prominence date back to the 11th century or earlier, with notable development attributed to Maratha warrior Shrinath Mahadji Shinde in the late 18th century.

Managed by a local panchayat/trust, Alopi Devi Mandir continues to be a vibrant centre for worship and spiritual activities. Alopi Devi Mandir welcomes devotees for darshan every day from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

The best time to visit is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), in the winter months from November to February, or during the festival season when the temple comes alive with special rituals and celebrations.

Major festivals observed here include Navratri (in March-April and September-October) and the grand Kumbh Mela as per the traditional cycle, attracting pilgrims from across the country.

The temple offers free darshan entry and conducts important poojas such as Shringar Puja and the Mundan (head-tonsuring) ceremony, with rituals performed in Hindi and Sanskrit.

Modest, traditional attire covering shoulders and knees is recommended for both men and women, though there is no strict dress code. For those planning a visit, Alopi Devi Mandir is easily accessible.

From Prayagraj Junction (6 km away), visitors can hire an auto-rickshaw or e-rickshaw to reach Alopibagh. The temple is also near Daraganj and Prayag Sangam railway stations, and local tempos and e-rickshaws are available, especially during festivals.

The nearest airport is Prayagraj Airport (Bamrauli), 15 km away. Parking is very limited near the temple, so it is advisable to park near the Sangam area and use e-rickshaws for the final stretch. The temple is wheelchair accessible, though it can get crowded during peak hours.

Devotees can partake in prasadam, with sweets like laddoo and pedha available, and special prasad distributed during festivals. Accommodation options range from hotels and homestays to dharamshalas in Alopibagh, Daraganj, and near the Sangam area, catering to various budgets.

Photography is not allowed inside the main sanctum, and professional cameras require prior permission.

Nearby attractions include Triveni Sangam, Shri Bade Hanuman Ji Mandir, Akbar Fort, Sri Akshayavat Temple Patalpuri, Shri Nagvasuki Mandir, Shri Adi Shankar Vimana Mandapam, and Anand Bhavan, making Alopi Devi Mandir a central point for a spiritually enriching visit to Prayagraj.
