About

Annapurna Temple, also known as Annapurna Devi Mandir, is a revered ancient temple and pilgrimage centre located in Vishwanath Gali, Visheshwarganj, near Dashashwamedh Road in the heart of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

Dedicated to Goddess Shakti, worshipped here as Annapurna Devi, this temple also enshrines Bhavani Devi and Bhavani Gauri. The temple is an outstanding example of Nagara (North Indian) architecture and stands as a living heritage temple, built during the Maratha period by Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao I.

Pilgrims and devotees visiting Annapurna Temple can participate in various poojas and aartis conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi. The temple opens early, with timings from 4:00 AM to 11:30 AM and again from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

The Morning Aarti is held from 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM, followed by the Afternoon Aarti at 12:00 PM and the Evening Aarti from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Free darshan is available to all visitors, and conservative, traditional attire is recommended for both men and women.

The best time to visit Annapurna Temple is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), at evening aarti, in winter (November to February), or during the vibrant festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Annakoot/Diwali in October-November and Navratri in September-October, when the temple sees a surge of devotees and special prasadam is distributed. Reaching Annapurna Temple is convenient for pilgrims.

The temple is easily accessible from Godowlia Crossing, which can be reached by e-rickshaw or auto from anywhere in Varanasi.

From Godowlia, a short 5–10 minute walk through the bustling Vishwanath Gali leads to the temple, which is located on the right side of the main Kashi Vishwanath Temple complex.

Please note that vehicles cannot reach the temple directly due to the narrow lanes, and there is no dedicated parking; parking is available at Godowlia Crossing or Bengali Tola.

For those arriving by train, Varanasi Junction (BSB) is 5 km away, Banaras Station (BSBS) is 7 km away, and Varanasi City Station (BCY) is 4 km away. The nearest airport is Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (VNS), located 26 km from the temple.

Accommodation options are plentiful, with many dharamshalas, guest houses, and budget hotels in Godowlia, Dashashwamedh Ghat, and Bangali Tola. Shree Mata Annapurna Andhra Ashram is also nearby.

Devotees can partake in the temple’s tradition of Annadanam, with free, freshly cooked vegetarian meals served daily in the afternoon and special prasadam offered at noon and during Navratri.

Photography is not allowed inside the temple premises, and cameras or electronics are strictly prohibited in the sanctum area. For more information and online darshan, visit the official website at https://kashiannapurnatemple.com.

Nearby attractions include Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Dashashwamedh Ghat, Shri Kaal Bhairav Temple, Manikarnika Ghat, and Vishalakshi Mata Shaktipeeth Temple, making Annapurna Temple a central part of the spiritual experience in Varanasi.
