Thiruvallam Parasurama Temple

Recognized as an ASI-protected monument, this temple stands as a significant pilgrimage centre on the banks of the Karamana River, reflecting the distinctive Kerala architectural style.

The temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu and also houses shrines for Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma, Lord Ganapati, Veda Vyasa, and even footprints attributed to Parasurama and Ashwathama.

The temple’s historical roots trace back to the Pandya period, with its construction credited to Chera/Venad kings such as Athiyaman Perumal and Vira Kerala Varman. Mythological associations link its origin to revered figures like Vilwamangalam Swamy or Adi Shankaracharya.

Visitors are required to adhere to a traditional dress code: men must wear a mundu (dhoti), with shirts and trousers permitted only in the outer courtyards, while women should wear a saree, half-saree with blouse, or a modest churidar/salwar kameez with dupatta.

Western outfits and revealing attire are not allowed. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main temple complex, and mobile phones and cameras must be switched off or deposited outside.
