Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple

Nestled in the Pazhavangadi / Padma Nagar / East Fort area, this ancient temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Ganesha, with shrines for Lord Ayyappa, Goddess Durga, Nagaraja, and Brahmarakshas, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings from multiple deities.

The temple exemplifies traditional Kerala architecture and is recognized as a living heritage temple.

Originally established under the patronage of the Travancore Kingdom, the shrine was first built by Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma and later rebuilt by Ayilyam Thirunal Maharaja, reflecting its importance in the region's spiritual and cultural history.

Pazhavangadi Ganapathy Temple is open for darshan from 4:30 AM to 10:45 AM and again from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. The best time to visit is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), evening aarti, or during the vibrant festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Vinayaka Chaturthi (August-September), Sankashti Chaturthi (monthly), Varad Chaturthi, Makaravilakku Pooja (January), Maha Shivaratri (February-March), Vishu (April), Nira Puththari (July-August), Vijayadashami/Navratri (October), and Thrikkarththika (November-December).

Darshan at the temple is free, and poojas are conducted in Sanskrit and Malayalam. Devotees can participate in a variety of poojas such as Modhakam, Appam, Vada, Ney Payasam, Maha Ganapathy Homam, and Udayasthamana Pooja, with offerings ranging from Rs. 20 to Rs. 10,000.

Special poojas like Paal Payasam and Idi Payasam are available between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM. Prasadam including payasam, appam, modakam, and vada is distributed daily, while Annadanam is offered on major festival days.

Visitors are required to follow a strict dress code: men must wear traditional Kerala mundu and remain bare-chested inside the nalambalam, while women should wear saree, half-saree, or salwar kameez/churidar with dupatta. Western attire is not permitted.

The temple is conveniently located just 0.5–0.6 km from Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station and Central Bus Station, accessible by a short walk or auto-rickshaw. The nearest airport, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, is 8 km away.

While there is no dedicated parking, municipal grounds like Putharikandam Maidan provide limited space, and two-wheelers are preferred. The temple's approach is flat, but the inner sanctum is not wheelchair accessible.
