Narmada Udgam Temple Amarkantak

Set amidst the scenic hills, this ancient temple is dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman) and is recognized as the sacred origin point of the holy Narmada River.

Darshan at the Narmada Udgam Temple is free for all visitors. The temple is open from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 8:30/9:00 PM. The best time to visit is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), evening aarti, winter months (November to February), or during the festival season.

Morning Aarti is performed from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM, while the Evening Aarti (Narmada Maha Aarti) takes place from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Special poojas such as Narmada Mata Abhishek, Sahastrarchan, and Rudrabhishek are also conducted, with rituals performed in Sanskrit and Hindi.

Devotees are expected to adhere to a traditional dress code: men should wear full-length trousers or dhotis/kurta pyjamas, while women are advised to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or modest kurtis with covered legs and shoulders.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the sanctum and near the Narmada origin spring, but casual photography is permitted in the outer complex. Reaching the temple is convenient via Pendra Road Railway Station (30 km) or Anuppur Junction (48 km).
