Mangalnath Temple

Situated on Ankpat Marg, Agar Road, along the picturesque eastern banks of the Shipra River in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, this temple is recognized as a significant pilgrimage centre and riverbank temple.

Its architecture reflects a blend of ancient and renovated styles, with roots tracing back to the Maratha period, reconstructed by the Scindia royal family of Gwalior. The site itself is referenced in the Matsya Purana, adding to its spiritual significance.

Devotees can visit the temple daily from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with poojas conducted between 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The best time to visit Mangalnath Temple is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), in the winter months from November to February, or during the vibrant festival season.

Special attention is given to Tuesdays (Mangalvaar), Mangal Chaturthi, Shravana Maas (July–August), Navratri (Chaitra and Sharada), and Maha Shivratri (February–March), when the temple sees a surge of pilgrims. The temple offers free darshan for all visitors.

A modest dress code is observed: men are expected to wear traditional or formal attire such as dhoti, kurta, or full trousers with shirts, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or kurtis that cover the legs and shoulders.

Outdoor photography is permitted in the courtyards and river-facing areas, but is strictly restricted inside the main sanctum and during rituals. Reaching Mangalnath Temple is convenient.

From Ujjain Junction Railway Station (7 km away) or the city center, head north via Agar Road towards Ankpat Marg, continuing to the riverbank. Auto-rickshaws and cabs are readily available for direct access. The nearest airport is Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Indore, 55 km away.

Parking is available at the base, though spaces fill quickly on Tuesdays and festivals; a moderate uphill walk is required, and footwear must be removed outside.
