Koodalmanikyam Temple (Bharata Temple)

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple is celebrated for its distinctive Kerala-style architecture and its deep-rooted spiritual significance.

The temple’s origins trace back to the early medieval Chera monarchs, notably Stanu Ravi Varman and Bhaskara Ravi Varma, though the exact historical period remains unknown or disputed. Today, Koodalmanikyam Temple stands as a living heritage temple under the care of a local trust.

Devotees can visit the temple for darshan during the daily timings of 03:30 AM to 11:30 AM and 05:00 PM to 08:30 PM. Free darshan entry is available for all visitors.

For those seeking a serene and spiritual experience, the early morning hours between 5 and 8 AM are considered the best time to visit. The temple is particularly vibrant during the winter months from November to February, as well as during the festival season and the annual brahmotsavam.

Koodalmanikyam Temple is known for its unique poojas, all conducted in Sanskrit. Devotees can participate in rituals such as Niramala, Oru Nerathe Pooja, Swarna Thamaramala Charthal, Thirumudimala, and Ney Payasam, with offerings ranging from INR 50 to INR 2500.

The temple also celebrates significant festivals, including the Koodalmanikyam Utsavam (Arattu Festival) in April–May, Thripputhari in October–November, and Nalambala Darshanam in July–August.

A strict dress code is observed: men are required to wear a traditional mundu (dhoti/veshti) and remove upper garments before entering the inner sanctum, while women are encouraged to wear saree or set mundu, with salwar kameez or churidar and dupatta accepted in outer areas.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the temple premises and near the sanctum sanctorum. Reaching the temple is convenient, with Cochin International Airport just 37 km away and Irinjalakuda Railway Station at a distance of 9 km.
