About

Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple, also known as Guruvayurappan Temple, is a renowned pilgrimage centre and ancient temple located in East Nada, Guruvayur, Thrissur district, Kerala.

Revered as the “Bhuloka Vaikunta” and the “Dwaraka of the South,” this temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, with Lord Ganesha, Lord Ayyappa, and Bhagavati (Edathedathu Bhagavathi) also worshipped here.

The temple’s Kerala-style architecture and living heritage status make it a significant spiritual and cultural destination for devotees. The temple is open daily from 3:00 AM to 1:30 PM and 4:30 PM to 9:15 PM, providing ample opportunity for darshan and participation in rituals.

Early morning (5–8 AM), evening aarti time, the winter months (November to February), and the festival season are considered the best times to visit for a spiritually enriching experience.

Devotees can choose from free darshan, special darshan (₹1000 and ₹4500), and seeghra darshan (₹1000), ensuring accessibility for all visitors.

A variety of poojas are performed in Sanskrit and Malayalam, including Nirmalya Darshanam (3:00 AM – 3:30 AM), Oil Abhishekam, Pushpanjali, Palabhishekam, and the unique Choroonu/Annaprasanam ceremony.

Special poojas such as Thrikala Pooja and Udayasthamana Pooja are also available, with offerings ranging from ₹15 to ₹50,000. The temple’s prasadam and daily annadanam (Prasada Oottu) at Annalakshmi Hall are highlights, featuring butter, palpayasam, neypayasam, avil, thrimadhuram, and sugar.

Major festivals celebrated at Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple include Guruvayur Utsavam (February–March), Guruvayur Ekadasi (November–December), Chembai Sangeetholsavam (November), Ashtami Rohini (August–September), Vishu (April), and Kuchela Dinam (December), drawing large gatherings of devotees.
