Gundicha Temple

Situated in the Badashankha/Saradhabali area, this temple is a significant spiritual destination for devotees of Lord Vishnu and is closely associated with Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra.

Its striking Kalinga architecture and historical roots tracing back to the Chola period, built under the patronage of King Ananta Varman Chodaganga Deva, make it a must-visit for those interested in both devotion and heritage.

The temple is especially renowned during the Rath Yatra (Gundicha Yatra or Ghosa Yatra), held in June–July (Ashadha), when the deities are ceremoniously brought here from the main Shree Jagannatha Temple.

The temple timings are from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with the best time to visit being the winter months (November to February), during festival season, early mornings (5–8 AM), or during the evening aarti.

Visitors are requested to adhere to the dress code: men should wear traditional or modest conservative clothing such as full-length trousers or dhotis with standard shirts, while women are advised to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or long skirts with covered shoulders.

Cameras, mobile phones, and other electronic devices are not allowed inside the temple complex, but cloakrooms and locker facilities are available for safe deposit. Reaching Gundicha Temple is convenient.

It is about 3.5 km from Puri Railway Station, with auto-rickshaws and local taxis readily available. For those arriving by air, Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar is approximately 60 km away.
