About

Eran Varaha Temple, also known locally as Eran Vishnu Temple, Airikina, Erakaina, Erakanya, or Erakaya, is a renowned ancient temple dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu.

Situated on the banks of the Bina River in Eran village, Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, this temple stands as a significant ASI-protected monument attributed to the Gupta dynasty, specifically to King Dhyana Vishnu from the late 5th century CE.

The temple’s unique riverside location and historical architecture make it a notable destination for devotees and history enthusiasts alike.

The main sanctum is devoted to Lord Vishnu, and the temple complex also features shrines and sculptures of other deities, including Narasimha, Garuda, Standing Vishnu, and Bhudevi (Prithivi).

The site is particularly vibrant during Varaha Jayanti, celebrated in the Bhadrapada month (August-September), drawing pilgrims for special prayers and rituals in Hindi and Sanskrit. Visitors can enjoy free darshan at the Eran Varaha Temple, with no entry fee required.

The temple is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, operating as an open monument site during daylight hours. While there is no formal dress code, both men and women are encouraged to wear modest and respectful casual clothing in keeping with the sanctity of the site.

Reaching the Eran Varaha Temple is convenient via several routes. The nearest railway stations are Mandi Bamora (10 km), Bina Junction (17 km), and Saugor Station in Sagar (75 km). From Bina Junction, visitors can hire a taxi or auto-rickshaw to Eran village.

If traveling from Sagar city, a drive northwest on the Sagar-Bina Road leads to the rural turnoff for Eran near the Bina River. The closest airports are Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal (150 km), Jabalpur Airport (154 km), and Khajuraho Airport (164 km).

As there are no hotels at the temple site, accommodation options are available in Sagar city, which offers hotels and lodges about 75–80 km away, or in Bina and Khurai, where basic guesthouses can be found within 15–20 km.

The temple grounds do not provide commercial prasadam or annadanam, but devotees may bring their own offerings. Photography and videography are permitted throughout the site, allowing visitors to capture the ancient architecture and the nearby Garuda Stambha and Gupta-era ruins.

Informal parking is available along the approach path, though accessibility may be limited due to uneven terrain.

For those seeking spiritual solace or a glimpse into India’s rich heritage, the Eran Varaha Temple in Madhya Pradesh offers a memorable pilgrimage experience, especially during the cool winter months or early mornings.
