Bandhavgarh Sheshshaiya Vishnu Temple

Revered as a significant pilgrimage centre, this temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, with Lord Shiva and Lord Brahma also worshipped here. The temple is renowned for its striking rock-cut architecture, which adds to its spiritual and historical allure.

Access to the Bandhavgarh Sheshshaiya Vishnu Temple is closely regulated, as it lies within the protected forest area of Bandhavgarh National Park. Visitors can reach the temple by first traveling to Tala village, the main park entrance.

From there, an official jeep safari for the Tala zone must be booked either at the park gate or through local resorts.

The safari route leads towards Bandhavgarh Fort, and from a designated drop point, pilgrims and visitors must walk with a forest guide to the temple site, which features the iconic Sheshshaiya statue. Darshan at the temple is free of charge, with no entry fee.

However, timings are strictly aligned with the national park’s safari shifts.

The temple is accessible from October 15 to June 30, with specific morning and afternoon slots that vary by season: October 15 to February 15 (6:30 AM–11:00 AM, 2:30 PM–5:30 PM), February 16 to March 31 (6:00 AM–11:00 AM, 3:00 PM–6:00 PM), and April 1 to June 30 (5:30 AM–10:00 AM, 4:00 PM–7:00 PM).

The temple remains closed from July 1 to October 15, on Wednesday afternoons, and during major festivals. The best time to visit is during winter months (November to February), especially in the morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM.

Poojas and rituals at the temple are conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi. Major festivals observed here include Krishna Janmashtami in August-September and Kabir Jayanti in May-June.

Visitors are required to follow a conservative dress code, with earth-toned or plain clothing for men and modest, earth-toned attire for women; bright colors are strictly prohibited.

There is no commercial prasadam or daily annadanam at the temple, but visitors may bring their own vegetarian snacks, ensuring adherence to the park’s no-plastic and no-litter policies. Photography is allowed from designated spots without flash, while commercial filming requires prior permission.
