Yogpith Temple (Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Birthplace)

This sacred site, locally called Yogpith, Yoga-pitha, Jogapith, or Sridhama Mayapur Yogpith, is renowned as the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, with Lord Vishnu as the primary deity.

The temple also houses shrines for Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (Gaura-Narayana), Vishnupriya, Lakshmipriya, Infant Nimai with Saci-mata and Jagannatha Misra, Adhokshaja Vishnu, Sri Sri Radha-Madhava, Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Sri Lakshmi-Narasimha, Sri Gaura-Gadadhara, Gopisvara Shiva, and Ksetrapala Shiva, making it a significant spiritual destination for Vaishnavas and devotees across India.

The temple complex features a mixed and renovated architectural style, reflecting its historical evolution. The initial shrine was established in the 1890s by Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura, while the present complex was developed by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura between 1934 and 1953.

Yogpith Temple is recognized as a living heritage temple, managed by a local trust, and continues to be a vibrant centre of worship and devotion. Darshan at Yogpith Temple is free for all visitors.

The temple is open from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM and 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM, with the best time to visit being during winter (November to February), festival seasons, early mornings (5–8 AM), or during the evening aarti.

Morning Arati and Puja are held from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM, with routine worship starting earlier, while the Evening Darshan and Shayana Aarti take place from 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Special Sevas and Archana are available for devotees, with offerings priced at ₹10 and ₹50.

Rituals are conducted in Sanskrit, Bengali, Hindi, and English, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of pilgrims.

The temple observes major festivals such as Gaura Purnima and Dol Purnima (February–March), Janmashtami and Radhashtami (August–September), and Kartik Vrata/Damodara Masa (October–November).

Devotees receive sacred dry or sweet prasadam after offerings, while full meals and annadanam are available at the nearby ISKCON Mayapur prasadam halls.

Reaching Yogpith Temple is convenient: from Kolkata, pilgrims can travel via NH-12 towards Krishnanagar, then proceed to Navadweep/Mayapur and take a local auto or toto.

By train, travelers can reach Nabadwip Dham (10 km away) or Krishnanagar City Junction (22 km), followed by a rickshaw and ferry to Mayapur. The nearest airport is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, 120 km away.

Parking is available near the temple, with flat pathways for easy accessibility. Nearby attractions include ISKCON Mayapur, Srila Prabhupada Pushpa Samadhi Mandir, Mayapur Goshala, Chand Kazi's Tomb, and Sri Chaitanya Math.

Pilgrim guesthouses and hotels such as ISKCON campus guesthouses (Ishodyan Bhavan, Gada Bhavan), Mayapur Yatri Nivas, and Jagannath Guest House offer comfortable accommodation.
