About

Vyasa Gaddi Temple, also known locally as Ved Vyas Ashram, Vyas Peeth, Seat of Vyasa, or Vyas Gaddi, is an ancient pilgrimage centre situated in Naimisharanya, Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh.

This living heritage temple is uniquely located about 1 km south of Chakra Tirth, set atop a high mound beneath an ancient banyan tree, offering a serene and spiritual ambiance for devotees.

The temple is dedicated to Maharishi Ved Vyas, with triangular piles of clothes symbolically representing the presiding deity, making it a significant destination for those seeking a profound spiritual experience.

The temple is open for darshan every day from 6:00 AM to 8:00 or 9:00 PM, allowing ample time for pilgrims to participate in worship and rituals. Both free darshan and special darshan entry types are available, catering to the needs of all visitors.

Daily worship and parikrama are performed, along with Bhagavata Katha (reading or listening), conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi.

The best time to visit Vyasa Gaddi Temple is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), evening aarti, or in the winter months from November to February, when the weather is most pleasant for pilgrimage.

The temple observes several important festivals, including the Phalguna Mela and 84-Kosi Parikrama in March, Vyasa Purnima (Guru Purnima), and Amavasya Days, drawing large numbers of devotees.

During these occasions, traditional sweets or misri are distributed as prasadam, and annadanam is organized by local ashrams and charitable halls, ensuring that pilgrims are well cared for.

Visitors are advised to follow the temple’s dress code: men should wear traditional, modest clothing such as shirts, trousers, dhoti, or pyjamas with an upper cloth, while women are expected to wear saree, half-saree with blouse, or churidar with pyjama and upper cloth.

Shorts, sleeveless tops, and similar attire are not permitted. For darshan, mobile phones must be submitted, and photography inside the main shrine is generally not allowed, though outdoor photos of the banyan tree and temple exterior may be permitted.

Reaching Vyasa Gaddi Temple is convenient from Lucknow via taxi or UPSRTC bus to Sitapur, followed by a state highway drive to Misrikh-cum-Neemsar. From Sitapur, taxis or shared auto-rickshaws cover the 32–35 km to Naimisharanya.

The nearest railway stations are Naimisharanya Station, Sitapur Junction (35 km), and Balamau Junction (50 km), with Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow about 90 km away.

Accommodation options nearby include Shri Ved Vyas Dham Ashram, Andhra Ashram, Hotel Satyanarayan, Geetasheel Palace/Hotel Neelkanth Palace, and the UP Tourism Guesthouse.

Pilgrims can also explore nearby attractions such as Chakra Tirth, Maa Lalita Devi Temple, Maharishi Dadhichi Kund, and Shri Naimishnath Vishnu Temple, enhancing their spiritual journey in Naimisharanya.
