About

Thiruvahindrapuram Devanatha Perumal Temple is a renowned Divya Desam and ancient pilgrimage centre dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located on the outskirts of Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu.

Nestled on the banks of the Garudanadhi and Kedilam rivers, the temple is also known by several local names, including Devanathaswamy Temple, Tiruvaheendrapuram, Thiruvanthipuram, Aheendrapuram, and Oushadagiri.

This sacred site is celebrated for its Dravidian architecture and its historical significance, with origins tracing back to the Chola period.

The temple was built by Chola kings such as Kulothunga Chola I, Vikrama Chola, and Rajaraja Chola III, with later enhancements by the Pandya and Vijayanagara dynasties, including Achyuta Deva Raya and Koperunjinga.

The presiding deity here is Lord Vishnu, worshipped as Devanatha Perumal, accompanied by several other revered deities such as Senkamalavalli Thayar, Hemabhujavalli, Vaikunta Nayagi, Amruthavarshini, Pallikonda Perumal, Andal, Adi Kesava Perumal, Alvars, Hanuman, Garuda, and Hayagriva.

The temple is a living heritage site managed by a local trust, and it continues to be a vibrant centre for religious activities and festivals. Devotees can participate in daily poojas such as Alankaram, Naivedyam, and Deepa Aradhanai, conducted in Tamil and Sanskrit.

Darshan is available through both free and special entry options. The temple is open for darshan from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The best time to visit is during the winter months (November to February), the festival season, or in the early mornings.

The temple observes a strict dress code: men are required to wear a dhoti (veshti) with a shirt or formal trousers, while women are expected to wear a saree, churidar, or salwar kameez with a dupatta. Shorts and lungis are not permitted.

Thiruvahindrapuram Devanatha Perumal Temple is famous for its vibrant festivals, including Chithirai Brahhmotsavam (April-May), Vaikasi Visakam & Vasanth Utsav (May-June), Aadi Pooram & Amavasya (July-August), Aavani Pavithra Utsav (August-September), Purattasi Maha Desikan Utsav (September-October), Deepavali & Karthigai (October-December), Vaikunda Ekadasi & Hanumath Jayanthi (December-January), Makar Sankranti & Pongal (January-February), and Panguni Uthiram & Rama Navami (March-April).

Specialized prasadam is offered, especially during festivals, and annadanam is organized during major celebrations.
