About

Thaanesar Murugan Temple, also locally known as Thindal Murugan Temple or Arulmigu Velayudhaswami Temple, is a revered hill temple situated in Thindal, Erode, Tamil Nadu.

Dedicated primarily to Lord Murugan, with Velayudhaswami also worshipped here, this temple stands as a prominent pilgrimage centre and an ancient spiritual destination. The temple’s architecture is a fine example of the Dravidian style, attracting devotees and architecture enthusiasts alike.

The temple is easily accessible from Erode Junction Railway Station, located just 7–8 km away. Pilgrims can take a local bus towards Perundurai or Thindal and alight at the Thindal Murugan Temple stop.

Alternatively, taxis and autos are available from the city center, making the journey convenient and straightforward. For those traveling from afar, Salem Airport is about 65 km away, while Coimbatore International Airport is approximately 90 km from the temple.

Thaanesar Murugan Temple welcomes devotees daily from 6:00 AM to 12:30 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM, with extended hours till 9:00 PM on special days.

The best time to visit is during the early morning hours between 5 and 8 AM, during evening aarti, on weekdays for a less crowded experience, or during the vibrant festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Skanda Sashti in October-November and monthly Krittika days, drawing large gatherings of devotees.

For darshan, the temple offers multiple entry options: free darshan, Seeghra darshan for a nominal fee of ₹20, and VIP darshan at ₹50, catering to the needs of all visitors. Poojas and rituals are performed in Tamil, maintaining the traditional customs of the region.

Visitors are advised to follow the temple’s dress code: men should wear traditional attire such as dhoti, veshti, or trousers (shorts are to be avoided), while women are recommended to wear sarees, churidars, or long skirts, avoiding short skirts and casual wear.

Parking is available at the base of the hill, including wheelchair-accessible spots, though assistance may be needed at the entrance. Photography is strictly prohibited inside the sanctum sanctorum, but mobile phones are generally permitted elsewhere on the premises.

Accommodation options are plentiful in Erode city center, just 5–7 km from the temple, with several hotels and lodges, and basic temple-managed rooms may also be available for devotees.

Nearby attractions include Chennimalai Murugan Temple, Arulmigu Thiru Ardhanareeswarar Temple in Tiruchengode, Arulmigu Sri Magudeswarar Temple in Kodumudi, and Bannari Amman Temple, making Thaanesar Murugan Temple an ideal stop on a spiritual journey through Tamil Nadu.
