Swamimalai Murugan Temple

Dedicated to Lord Swaminatha (Murugan), this ancient temple stands as one of the celebrated Padai Veedus, specifically the 4th Padai Veedu, and is renowned for its Dravidian architectural style.

The temple’s origins trace back to the Chola period, having been built by Chola dynasty rulers, and it continues to be a living heritage temple managed by a local trust.

Perched atop a small hillock near the Cauvery River, Swamimalai Murugan Temple is easily accessible from Kumbakonam, which is just 8 km away. Pilgrims can reach Kumbakonam by train or bus and then take a local bus, auto-rickshaw, or taxi to Swamimalai.
