About

Sri Vyaghreswara Swamy Temple Palivela is a revered ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated on the scenic riverbanks in the village of Palivela, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, Andhra Pradesh.

This temple is a significant pilgrimage centre, drawing devotees from across the region who seek divine blessings and spiritual solace.

It is also locally known by names such as Sri Uma Koppulingeswara Swamy Temple, Agasteswara Swamy Temple, and Palvalapuram Temple, reflecting its deep-rooted cultural and historical significance.

The temple stands as a testament to Chalukya architecture, with its origins tracing back to the Chalukya dynasty. It has undergone major renovations under the patronage of King Raja Raja Narendra in the 11th century and Sri Pratapa Rudra, further enhancing its grandeur and heritage value.

Recognized as a state heritage site, the temple’s magnificent structures, gopuram, and serene temple tank (pushkarini) offer a tranquil environment for worship and reflection. Sri Vyaghreswara Swamy Temple is home to several deities.

The primary deity is Lord Shiva, accompanied by Goddess Uma Devi (Parvathi), Lord Vigneswara (Ganesha), Subrahmanya Swamy, Veerabhadra Swamy, Papanaseswara Swamy, and Chandiswara Swamy.

Devotees can participate in various poojas such as Suprabhata Seva, Abhishekam (morning), Archana (with a nominal fee), and Nivarana Puja (morning), conducted in both Sanskrit and Telugu. Free darshan is available to all visitors, making the spiritual experience accessible and inclusive.

The temple operates daily from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and reopens from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The best time to visit is during winter (November to February), early mornings, or during the vibrant festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Maha Shivaratri, Kalyana Mahotsavam, Radhotsavam (Chariot Festival), Karteeka Masam, Navarathrulu, and Dhanurmasam, each drawing large gatherings of devotees and marked by special rituals and festivities.

Traditional prasadams such as Pulihora, Kesari, and sacred Vibhuti/Kumkum are distributed to devotees. During major festivals like Maha Shivaratri and Kartika Pournami, special Annadanam (mass free food) is organized.

Visitors are encouraged to follow the temple’s dress code, with traditional Indian attire recommended for both men and women. Informal open parking is available near the temple’s outer approaches, suitable for two-wheelers and cars. While photography is prohibited near the inner sanctum, visitors may capture the beauty of the outer temple architecture and surroundings.
