About

Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple Tirumala, also known by names such as Tirumala Temple, Tirupati Balaji Temple, Kaliyuga Vaikuntha, and Temple of Seven Hills, stands as a prominent pilgrimage centre and ancient temple on the Tirumala Hills in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh.

Dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, this revered Divya Desam features exquisite Dravidian architecture and is a major spiritual destination for devotees from across India and the world.

The main shrine is surrounded by the scenic Seven Hills and houses not only the primary deity, Lord Venkateswara, but also sanctums for Sri Ranganatha, Varadarajaswami, Yoga Narasimhaswami, Vakulamata, Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy, Koluvu Srinivasa Murthy, and Ugra Srinivasa Murthy.

The temple’s rituals and poojas are conducted in Sanskrit, Tamil, and Telugu, reflecting its rich cultural heritage. Darshan at the Tirumala Temple is available through various entry types: Free darshan, Special darshan (₹300), and VIP darshan (₹10,500).

The temple is open daily from 2:30 AM to 1:30 AM (next day), with Friday closures at 10:30 PM.

Some of the key poojas include Suprabhatam Seva at 3:00 AM (3:30 AM on Fridays), Thomala Seva and Archana Seva in the morning, Vasanthotsavam in the afternoon, Kalyanotsavam around noon, and Sahasra Deepalankara Seva at 5:30 PM. Special Entry Darshan is available in hourly slots throughout the day.

Pilgrims are required to follow a strict dress code: men must wear dhoti with upper cloth or kurta-pyjama, while women should wear saree, half-saree, or salwar kameez/churidar with dupatta. Western clothes are not permitted in paid or special queues.

The temple celebrates several major festivals, including Srivari Brahmotsavams (September–October), Vaikunta Ekadasi (December–January), Ratha Saptami (January–February), Srivari Pavitrotsavam (August–September), and Pushpa Yagam (November).

To reach the temple, pilgrims can arrive at Tirupati by train or plane, proceed to Alipiri or the RTC Bus Stand, and then travel up the ghat road by APSRTC bus or taxi (about 45 minutes). Walking pilgrims can ascend via Alipiri Mettu (12 km) or Srivari Mettu (2.1 km).

Upon arrival, electronics and luggage must be deposited at cloakrooms, as all gadgets are strictly prohibited inside the temple complex.

Accommodation is provided by TTD in the form of guest houses, dormitories, and budget rooms in Tirumala and Tirupati, with private hotels available only in Tirupati city.

The temple offers free vegetarian meals daily at the Tarigonda Vengamamba Annaprasadam Complex, and the famous Tirupati Laddu is the main prasadam.
