About

Sri Kapileswara Swami Temple, also known locally as Kapila Theertham or Kapileshwara Swamy Temple, is a revered ancient temple situated on the banks of a sacred water body in the Kapila Theertham and Alipiri area of Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

This temple is a significant pilgrimage centre, renowned for its Dravidian architecture and its historical roots dating back to the Vijayanagara period, having been built by rulers of the Vijayanagara Empire.

The temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva and also houses shrines for Kamakshi Amman, Lord Venkateswara, and Vinayaka, making it a spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings from multiple deities.

Pilgrims visiting the temple can participate in various poojas conducted in Sanskrit, such as Abhishekam (9:30 AM – 12:00 PM), Padala Seva (5:30 AM – 7:30 PM), and Ekantha Seva (7:30 PM – 8:00 PM), with nominal charges for each ritual.

Free darshan is available for all visitors, and the temple timings are from 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM, allowing ample opportunity for devotees to plan their visit.

The temple observes a traditional dress code: men are encouraged to wear a dhoti with a shirt or pyjama, while women are advised to wear a saree with blouse, Punjabi dress with dupatta, or churidar with dupatta.

The best time to visit Sri Kapileswara Swami Temple is during the early morning hours between 5 and 8 AM, the winter months from November to February, the monsoon season from June to September, and during major festivals.

The temple is the focal point for several vibrant festivals, including the Annual Brahmotsavam in February, Maha Shivaratri in February-March, Karthika Masam and Karthika Deepam in November, Teppotsavams (Float Festival) in December-January, as well as Laksha Kumkumarchana and Vinayaka Utsava.

Reaching the temple is convenient: it is about 3–4 km from both Tirupati Main Railway Station and Tirupati Central Bus Stand, with direct auto-rickshaw and city bus access. From Alipiri, the temple is just 1–2 km away.

Parking is available near the temple base, and it is easily accessible by local transport. For those seeking accommodation, several hotels and TTD guest houses are located within 2 km, including Golden Tulip Tirupati, Treebo Seven Inn, and others.

Nearby attractions include the picturesque Kapila Theertham Waterfalls, Alipiri Footpath, ISKCON Temple, Sri Padmavati Ammavaari Temple, Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala, and Chandragiri Fort. Photography is restricted inside the sanctum and during certain rituals.

For more details, visitors can refer to the official website or access online darshan facilities. Various prasadams are distributed after pujas, enriching the spiritual experience for devotees.
