Sri Govindaraja Swami Temple Tirupati Lower Shrine

This living heritage temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and features a magnificent Dravidian architectural style, reflecting its historical significance from the Vijayanagara period.

The temple was consecrated by Ramanujacharya in 1130 AD and further developed during the Vijayanagara Empire, making it an important spiritual and cultural landmark in Tirupati.

The temple complex houses several deities alongside the main shrine of Lord Vishnu, including Sri Parthasarathi, Rukmini, Satyabhama, Pundarikavalli, Andal, and Vedanta Desikar. Devotees can participate in a variety of poojas and sevas conducted in Sanskrit, Tamil, and Telugu.

Notable daily rituals include the Suprabhata Seva at 5:00 AM, Padala Seva from 5:30 AM to 7:30 PM, and Abhishekam between 9:30 AM and 12:00 PM. Evening worship such as Sayanotsavam is held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Special weekly poojas like Visesha Puja (Monday), Ashtadala Pada Padmaaradhana (Tuesday), Sahasra Kalasabhishekam (Wednesday), Tiruppavada Seva and Poolangi Seva (Thursday), and Abhishekam (Friday) offer devotees unique opportunities for darshan and blessings.

Temple timings are from 5:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM every day. Darshan options include a free darshan and a special darshan with a fee of INR 300.

The dress code requires men to wear a dhoti (pancha) with shirt or kurta-pyjama, and women to wear a saree or chudidhar with dupatta, ensuring a traditional and respectful atmosphere.

The best time to visit is during winter months (November to February), early mornings (5–8 AM), and weekdays for a less crowded experience.

Major festivals celebrated here include the Annual Brahmotsavam (May–June), Float Festival or Teppotsavam (February–March), Jyeshtabhishekam (July), Rathasapthami (February), Vaikuntha Ekadasi (December–January), and Adhyayanotsavams (January–February).

Reaching the temple is convenient: it is just 500 meters from Tirupati Central Railway Station, accessible by foot via GS Mada Street. From Tirupati Central Bus Station, the temple is 1.5 km away and can be reached by auto-rickshaw or taxi.

Tirupati Airport is 15 km from the city center, with taxis and shuttles available. Parking is available nearby with wheelchair accessibility, though the area can be crowded, so auto-rickshaws are recommended.

Photography and mobile phones are not permitted inside the main shrine, with lockers provided at the entrance.
