About

Sri Kalahasteeswara Temple, also known as Srikalahasti Temple, stands as a revered pilgrimage centre in Srikalahasti, Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh.

Situated in the central area near the Swarnamukhi River at the foothills of the Seshachalam Hills, this ancient temple is renowned as one of the Pancha Bhoota Sthalams and is often referred to as Dakshina Kailasam and the Kashi of the South.

The temple’s Dravidian architecture reflects its rich heritage, with origins tracing back to the Pallava dynasty and significant contributions from the Chola kings and King Krishnadevaraya of the Vijayanagara Empire.

Recognized as a state heritage monument, Sri Kalahasteeswara Temple draws devotees and history enthusiasts alike. The presiding deity here is Lord Shiva, worshipped as Sri Kalahasteeswara.

The temple also houses shrines for Goddess Parvati (Gnanaprasunambika), Lord Sadyoganapathi, Lord Subramanya, Lord Kasi Viswanatha, Goddess Annapurna, Lord Suryanarayana, and Kannappa (with a hill shrine nearby).

The temple is especially popular for its Rahu Ketu Poojas, with options such as General, Special Kala Sarpa Nivarana, Aseervachana, and VIP Rahu Ketu Poojas conducted between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Other rituals include Suprabhata Seva (early morning), Gomatha Pooja at 5:00 AM, Rudra Homam from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, and Akanda Deeparadhana Darshan in the evening. Poojas are performed in Sanskrit and Telugu, catering to a diverse group of devotees.

Temple timings are from 6:00 AM to 9:30 PM, with the best time to visit being winter (November to February), during the festival season, or early mornings.

Major festivals celebrated here include Maha Shivaratri (February–March), Annual Brahmotsavam (March), Karthika Deepotsavam (November), and Aadi Krithika (July). For darshan, devotees can choose between free, special (₹200), and VIP (₹50) entry types.

Traditional attire is mandatory: men are advised to wear dhoti, kurta, or pajama, while women should wear saree, half-saree, or churidar/salwar with dupatta. Reaching Sri Kalahasteeswara Temple is convenient.
