About

Sri Someswara Swami Temple Bhimavaram, also known locally as Somarama Temple, Bhimaramam, and Sri Someswara Janardhana Swamy Temple, is a revered Hindu pilgrimage centre situated in Gunupudi, Bhimavaram, in the Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh.

This ancient temple, built by the Eastern Chalukya king Bhima, stands as one of the prominent Pancharama Kshetras and is recognized for its Dravidian architecture.

The temple enjoys a scenic location on the riverbank and is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), highlighting its historical and cultural significance.

The primary deity worshipped here is Lord Shiva, with the temple also housing shrines for Goddess Annapurna, Goddess Adilakshmi, Lord Rama, Lord Hanuman, Navagrahas, Lord Ganesha, and Kumara Swamy.

This diversity of deities makes it a spiritual hub for devotees seeking blessings for various aspects of life.

The temple is especially vibrant during major festivals such as Maha Shivaratri (February/March), Karthika Masam (November/December), Sarannavaratri (September/October), Kalyana Utsavams, Vinayaka Chavithi, Krishnashtami, Dhanurmasam, and Kanuma, drawing pilgrims from across the region.

Devotees can participate in daily darshan, with both free and special darshan options available—the latter for a fee of ₹100. The temple timings are from 5:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with early mornings and evening aarti being the best times to visit.

The Mahanyasa Abhishekam is a significant pooja offered here, conducted in Telugu, and is available for ₹100. Traditional prasadam is distributed to visitors, and on specific occasions, the temple is known for its unique offering of fish curry.

Visitors are required to adhere to a traditional dress code: men are expected to wear dhoti (panche) or kurta-pyjama, while women should opt for saree, chudidar, or salwar kameez with dupatta.

Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum; cameras and phones must be deposited before entering the inner sanctum. Reaching the temple is convenient, with direct APSRTC buses and taxis available from Eluru, Vijayawada, and Rajahmundry.

Within Bhimavaram, the temple is just 1.2 km from the New Bus Station, accessible by local auto-rickshaws. Bhimavaram Junction (2 km away) and Bhimavaram Town are the nearest railway stations, while Rajahmundry Airport (91 km) and Vijayawada Airport (117 km) serve as the closest airports.

Accommodation options include temple guest houses and several private hotels and lodges in Gunupudi and Gandhinagar. Limited parking is available near the entrance, with paid options nearby.

For those interested in exploring further, nearby attractions include Ksheera Ramalingeswara Swamy Temple in Palakollu, Draksharama Sri Bheemeswara Swamy Temple, Annavaram Satyanarayana Swamy Temple, and ISKCON Temple Bhimavaram, making Sri Someswara Swami Temple an essential stop on any spiritual journey through Andhra Pradesh.
