About

Sri Parasurameswara Swamy Temple Attirala is a revered ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located on the serene banks of the Cheyyeru River in Attirala, near Rajampet in the Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh.

This temple, also known locally as Hatyarala, Dakshina Gaya, and Kitchamambapuram, stands as a significant pilgrimage centre and is renowned for its Dravidian architectural style.

The temple complex also houses shrines for Gadadhara Swamy (Lord Vishnu) and Treteswara Swamy, making it a spiritually enriching destination for devotees of multiple deities. The temple’s origins trace back to the Chola period, with its construction attributed to the Vaidumba dynasty.

Over the centuries, it received generous patronage from the Cholas, Pandyas, Kakatiyas, Vijayanagara rulers, and Kayasthas, which is reflected in its enduring heritage status as a living heritage temple.

The temple’s picturesque setting on a hill by the river enhances its tranquil and spiritual atmosphere, attracting pilgrims and visitors seeking peace and divine blessings. Sri Parasurameswara Swamy Temple is open for darshan from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Free darshan is available for all devotees. The temple offers a range of poojas, including Archana (INR 20), Abhishekam (INR 100), Rudrabhishekam, and Pitru Karyakramalu such as Thila Tharpanam and Pindradhanam.

Rituals are conducted in Telugu and Sanskrit, ensuring a traditional spiritual experience. Vibhuti, Kumkum, and sweet prasadam are distributed daily, while annadanam is organized during major festivals by local trusts and donors.

Key festivals celebrated at the temple include Maha Shivaratri (February-March), Sri Ramanavami (March-April), and Karthika Pournami (November), drawing large gatherings of devotees.

The best time to visit is during winter (November to February), especially in the early morning or during evening aarti, and weekdays are less crowded. To reach the temple, pilgrims can arrive at Rajampet, the nearest major town on the Tirupati–Kadapa highway.

From Rajampet bus station, travel 7 km east towards Chitvel, look for the temple arch, and proceed 1 km to the temple. Rajampet Railway Station is just 8 km away, with Kadapa and Renigunta Junction also accessible.

Kadapa Airport (50 km) and Tirupati International Airport (85 km) serve air travelers. Accommodation options range from budget lodges in Rajampet to mid-range hotels in Kadapa and a wide selection in Tirupati.

Informal open parking is available near the temple, though wheelchair accessibility is limited due to stone steps.

Nearby attractions include the Tretheswara & Gadhadara Temples within the Attirala complex, Ontimitta Kodandarama Swamy Temple (25 km), Siddavatam Fort (34 km), and Nithya Pooja Kona Waterfalls (42 km).

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum, but casual photography is allowed in the outer premises as per local guidelines. Visitors are advised to follow the temple’s dress code, with traditional attire recommended for both men and women.
