About

Sri Mukteswara Swamy Temple Mukteswaram is a revered ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the serene village of Mukteswaram in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, Andhra Pradesh.

Nestled near the ferry point area along a local village road, this riverbank temple is recognized as a significant pilgrimage centre and holds a special place among devotees seeking spiritual solace and blessings.

The temple is renowned for its Dravidian architecture, reflecting the traditional styles of South Indian temple construction.

Locally, it is also known by several names such as Sri Mukti Kantha Kshana Mukteswara Swamy, Eekshana Mukteswara Swamy Temple, and Kshana Mukti Swamy Temple, each echoing its spiritual significance in the region.

Alongside the presiding deity, Lord Shiva, the temple also houses the sanctum of Goddess Bala Tripura Sundari, offering devotees a chance to worship both deities in one sacred space.

Visitors to Sri Mukteswara Swamy Temple can participate in a range of poojas, including Archana, Rudrabhishekam, Kumkumarchana, and the special Shiva Kalyanam, which is performed in the evening after 6:00 PM. Rituals are conducted in Telugu and Sanskrit, maintaining the temple’s traditional roots.

The temple offers free darshan for all devotees, making it accessible for pilgrims from various walks of life. The temple operates daily with timings from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The best time to visit is during winter months (November to February), early mornings, or during evening aarti.

Festival seasons, especially Maha Shivaratri (February–March), Karthika Masam (November–December), and Shardiya Navaratri or Devi Sharadotsavam (September–October), are particularly vibrant, attracting large gatherings of devotees.

A traditional dress code is observed: men are encouraged to wear dhoti (pancha) and kurta or traditional trousers and shirts, while women should opt for sarees, half-sarees, or salwar kameez. Non-traditional attire and shorts are discouraged within the main sanctum.

For devotees’ convenience, informal open space and street-side parking are available nearby, although large dedicated parking lots are absent. The temple is moderately accessible, but elderly or differently-abled visitors may require assistance with inner steps and thresholds.

Photography and mobile phone usage are strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum, though casual photography of the outer premises may be permitted with prior approval from temple authorities.

Prasadam such as pulihora (tamarind rice), sweet pongal, and vibhuti/kumkum is distributed, and free mass feeding (Annadanam) is organized during major festivals and auspicious occasions, further enhancing the spiritual experience for all visitors.
