About

Sri Kotilingeswara Swamy Temple Rajamahendravaram stands as a revered pilgrimage centre on the banks of the sacred Godavari River in Kotilingalapeta, Rajamahendravaram, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh.

Known locally as Sri Umakotilingeswara Swamy Temple, Kotilingala Revu, and Kotilingala Ghat Temple, this ancient temple is a significant destination for devotees seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva, the temple’s primary deity.

The sanctum also enshrines Goddess Parvati, Lord Rama, Sita, and Nandi, reflecting its inclusive spiritual atmosphere. The temple’s architecture is a fine example of the Dravidian style, with its origins tracing back to the Eastern Chalukya dynasty and later expansions under the Vijayanagara Empire.

As a living heritage temple managed by a local panchayat trust, it continues to attract pilgrims and visitors throughout the year. Devotees can participate in various poojas and rituals conducted in Sanskrit and Telugu.

Key daily and special poojas include Mahamangalarathri at 7:00 AM, Mulasthana Abhisheka on Mondays, Ganapathi Pooja at 7:00 PM on Sankara Hara Chaturthi days, and Satyanarayana Swamy Vratham on Purnima and other auspicious days.

The temple also observes Mrityunjaya Homam, Archana/Abhisheka, and special rituals during Karthika Masam, including Rudrabhishekam and Parvathi Pallakki Utsava. Sri Kotilingeswara Swamy Temple is open for darshan from Monday to Sunday, 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Both free darshan and special darshan (for a nominal fee of ₹20) are available. The best time to visit is early morning between 5–8 AM, during winter months from November to February, or in the vibrant festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Maha Shivaratri (February/March), Karthika Masam (November/December), Sharad Navaratri & Durga Homa (September/October), Vaikuntha Ekadashi (December/January), Guru Purnima (June/July), and Varamahalakshmi Vratam (July/August).

Visitors are requested to follow the temple’s traditional dress code: men should wear dhoti and kurta or formal attire, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or churidars with dupatta.

Photography and mobile phone usage are strictly prohibited near the main deity and inner sanctum, though casual photography is generally allowed in designated outer areas.

Parking is available nearby, but can be limited during festivals, and wheelchair access is restricted within the historical structures. The temple offers prasadam such as Vibhuti, Kumkum, Pulihora, and sweets, with annadanam (free mass food distribution) organized daily and during major festivals.
