About

Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple, also known as Sigandureshwari Temple or Sri Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple, is a revered pilgrimage centre located on the scenic riverbank in Kalasavalli, Tumari Post, Sagara Taluk, Sigandur, within the Shivamogga district of Karnataka.

Dedicated to Goddess Shakti (Amman), this village temple draws devotees from across the region seeking blessings and spiritual solace. The temple is open to devotees from 5:00 AM to 2:30 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, making early mornings an ideal time for darshan.

The best time to visit is during the cool winter months from November to February, the lush monsoon season from June to September, or during the vibrant festival season.

The temple observes a traditional dress code: men are recommended to wear traditional attire, with shorts not allowed, while women are requested to wear traditional clothing, as western dress is not permitted within the premises. Devotees can participate in free darshan or opt for special darshan.

The temple conducts several poojas in Kannada, including Trikala Puja, Chandikayaga, Midday Naivedya Mahamangalarati, Abhisheka (original stone of Chaudamma), Tulabhara, Kumkumarchane, and Saptashiti Parayana. The temple is known for its daily annadanam, offering free meals to all visitors.

Afternoon prasadam is served from 12:00 PM to 3:30 PM, and night prasadam from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple celebrates major festivals such as the Annual Fair (Jatre) during Makara Sankranti on January 14th and 15th, Ashada Masa in June–July, and special poojas on every Amavasya and Poornima.

Reaching the temple is convenient with clear directions: from Sagara (35–40 km), take the road towards Kalasavalli and cross the Sharavathi backwaters via government ferry or the new bridge. From Shivamogga (105 km), drive to Sagara via Anandapura and follow the route to Sigandur.

Visitors from Bangalore (350–380 km) can travel via Tumkur, Tiptur, Arsikere, Shimoga, and Sagara. The nearest railway stations are Sagar Jambagaru (40 km), Talguppa (50 km), and Shivamogga Town (105 km).

Air travelers can use Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Airport in Shivamogga (105 km) or Mangaluru International Airport (188 km). Basic accommodation is available at the temple premises (Shree Sharavathi Vasathi Gruha) with advance booking, and more options are found in Sagara town, 40 km away.

Notable nearby attractions include Jog Falls (40 km), Kollur Mookambika Temple (46 km), Banavasi (60 km), and Ikkeri Aghoreshwara Temple (35 km). For more details, visit the official website or contact the temple directly. Please note that mobile usage is prohibited inside the temple premises.
