About

Sheetla Devi Mandir Meerut, also known locally as Sheetla Mata Mandir or Mata Sheetala, is a revered ancient temple and prominent pilgrimage centre situated in Naval Vihar, Jwala Nagar, in the city of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

The temple is dedicated to Goddess Shakti, worshipped here in the form of Sheetla Devi, and is also home to shrines of Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Hanuman.

Built in the classic Nagara (North Indian) architectural style, the temple stands as a living heritage site, drawing devotees from across the region.

The temple is especially vibrant during festivals such as Sheetala Ashtami (Basoda), celebrated in Chaitra (March-April), and Navratri, which occurs twice a year in March-April and September-October. Devotees also gather on Navami and Saptami Tithis of the lunar month.

The best times to visit Sheetla Devi Mandir are early mornings between 5 and 8 AM, during evening aarti, or throughout the festival season, when the temple atmosphere is particularly spiritual and energetic. Daily aarti is performed, and a variety of poojas are available for devotees.

Special offerings include Chunari, Coconut (Nariyal), Sweet Rice (Mitha Chawal), Thanda Halwa (Cold Halwa), Saree, and Mahabhent (Full Offering), with specific prices for each. The Sheetala Ashtami Puja or Basoda is a significant ritual conducted during Chaitra, on Ashtami Tithi.

Poojas are conducted in Hindi and Sanskrit, ensuring accessibility for a wide range of devotees. Prasadam at the temple includes Basoda (food cooked the previous night), sweet rice, cold halwa, and puri, distributed especially on festival days.

Darshan at Sheetla Devi Mandir is free, and visitors are advised to wear conservative clothing that covers shoulders and knees. Photography is generally prohibited inside the inner sanctum, maintaining the sanctity of the worship space. Reaching the temple is convenient from various parts of Meerut.

From Meerut City Junction Railway Station, the temple is about 4 km away and accessible by auto-rickshaw or e-rickshaw towards Baghpat Gate. Meerut Cantt Railway Station is 5 km away, with autos available to Begampul and then shared autos to Baghpat Gate.

Those arriving by road from Ghaziabad or Delhi can use the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, proceeding to Begumpur and then towards Baghpat Gate. Within Meerut, local transport like auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws are commonly used to reach the old city area.

For accommodation, hotels such as Harmony Inn, Crystal Palace, Bravo, and several Dharamshalas are available near central Meerut and the railway stations. Parking is available in local commercial areas, though accessibility may be limited in the narrow lanes of the old city.

Nearby attractions include Gandhi Bagh (Company Garden), Augarnath Temple (Kali Paltan Mandir), Shaheed Smarak, and Hastinapur, making Sheetla Devi Mandir an ideal spiritual and cultural destination in Meerut.
