About

Sati Anusuya Ashram Temple, also known locally as Anusuya Ashram or Anasuya Temple, is a revered pilgrimage centre situated on the serene banks of the Mandakini River in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh.

Nestled within a forested area, this ancient temple and ashram complex is a spiritual retreat for devotees seeking tranquility and blessings.

The temple is dedicated to various revered figures, including Sage Atri, Dattatreya, Durvasa, Chandra (moon-god), and Lord Krishna, making it a unique destination for those interested in diverse Hindu traditions.

The temple’s architecture reflects a mixed and renovated style, blending ancient elements with modern touches. The ashram ambiance, combined with its riverbank location, offers a peaceful environment ideal for meditation and personal prayer.

Sati Anusuya Ashram Temple is open 24 hours, with recommended visiting hours between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. The best time to visit is during the winter months from November to February, especially in the early morning or late morning hours, when the surroundings are most serene.

Darshan at the temple is free, and devotees can participate in personal prayer and offerings, such as sarees, bangles, and sindhoor. Special Abhishekam rituals are conducted on Shivaratri night, and poojas are performed in Hindi and Sanskrit.

The temple celebrates several festivals throughout the year, including Navaratri (Chaitra and Sharadiya), the Annual Temple Fair in Chaitra, Shivaratri, and Kartik Purnima, attracting pilgrims from across the region.

For those planning a visit, conservative clothing is recommended—men should wear trousers with shirts or kurta, while women are advised to cover shoulders and legs with sarees or kurta-churidar/leggings.

Basic ashram accommodation is available within the temple premises, and additional hotels and guest houses can be found in Sitapur or Ram Ghat, approximately 10–12 km away. Reaching Sati Anusuya Ashram Temple is convenient via Chitrakoot Dham (Karwi) railway station, located 19 km away, or by road.

Visitors can hire an auto-rickshaw or taxi from Karwi or Ram Ghat, following signposts along the Mandakini River. Private and public parking is available near the forest entrance, though paths may be uneven and not suitable for wheelchairs.

Photography is permitted in the ashram area, but visitors should seek permission before photographing the main deities. Prasadam is distributed, and basic food or bhojan may be available for devotees and sages on special occasions.

Nearby attractions include Gupt Godavari Cave, Sphatik Shila, Hanuman Dhara Mandir, Kamadgiri Temple, Ram Ghat, and Ganesh Bagh, making Chitrakoot a rich spiritual destination for pilgrims and travelers alike.
