About

Kamadgiri Parikrama Temple, also known locally as Kamtanath Temple, Kamadnathji, Kamadgiri Parvat, and Kamta Nath Mandir, is a revered pilgrimage centre nestled in Parikrama Path, Kamta Mohalla, Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh.

This ancient hill temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Rama, with sanctums also devoted to Sita, Lakshman, Bharat, Hanuman, and Sakshi Gopal. Its spiritual significance draws devotees from across India, especially those seeking darshan and the unique parikrama experience.

The temple complex features a mixed and renovated architectural style, reflecting the contributions of various saints and rulers of Bundelkhand over centuries. The Kamadgiri Parikrama, a sacred 5-kilometer circumambulation around the hill, is the highlight of a visit.

Pilgrims begin their journey at the main entrance near Kamtanath temple, walking clockwise and passing several important shrines before returning to the starting point.

The parikrama path is relatively flat and wheelchair accessible, with parking available at the entry point, making it convenient for visitors of all ages. Daily temple timings are from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with the inner sanctum closed between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.

Early morning hours (5–8 AM) and winter months (November to February) are considered the best times to visit, along with major festival seasons. The temple observes a modest dress code, recommending traditional Indian attire with covered shoulders and knees for both men and women.

Devotees can participate in several poojas, including the Kamtanath Mukharbind Puja, Morning Aarti at 6:00 AM, Evening Aarti at 7:00 PM, and the spiritually significant Dandavat Parikrama. All rituals are conducted in Hindi. Free darshan is available to all visitors.

Festivals such as Ram Navami (March–April), Diwali (Deepotsav, October–November), Vivah Panchami (November–December), and monthly Amavasya or Full Moon Days are celebrated with devotion, attracting large gatherings.

Prasadam, including sweets and flowers, is distributed in the temple, and free food (annadanam) is generously provided by ashrams along the parikrama route.

Reaching Kamadgiri Parikrama Temple is convenient, with Chitrakoot Dham Karwi railway station just 11 km away and Chitrakoot Airport 18 km from the site. Auto-rickshaws and taxis are readily available from the town to the temple.

Accommodation options nearby include MPT Mandakini Resort, UPSTDC Tourist Bungalow, Ramayana Bhavan Ashram, and Sita Rasoi Guest House. Photography is generally permitted within the temple complex, allowing visitors to capture their spiritual journey.

Nearby attractions such as Ram Ghat, Hanuman Dhara Mandir, Sphatik Shila, Janki Kund, Gupt Godavari, and Sati Anusuya Temple further enrich the pilgrimage experience in Chitrakoot. For more details, visitors can refer to the official website at https://uptourism.gov.in/en/article/kamadgiri.
