About

Chitrakoot Ram Ghat Temple, also known locally as Ram Ghat, Ram Ghat Chitrakoot, Mandakini Ghat, and Payasvini Ghat, is a revered pilgrimage centre situated on the banks of the Mandakini (Payaswini) River in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh.

This riverbank temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Rama, with sanctified spaces for Sita, Lakshmana, Kamadnath, and Bharat, making it a significant destination for devotees seeking darshan and spiritual solace.

The temple is renowned for its Nagara (North Indian) architectural style and holds the distinction of being both a Shakti Peetha and a living heritage temple with state heritage status.

Open daily from 3:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Chitrakoot Ram Ghat Temple welcomes pilgrims and tourists alike for free darshan. The best times to visit are during the serene morning hours (8 AM–12 PM), the vibrant evening aarti, and the pleasant winter months from November to February.

A highlight of the temple experience is the Mandakini Aarti (Ganga Aarti), held every evening from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Devotees also participate in Dip Daan in the evenings and take a holy dip (snan) in the river between 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.

Individual pujas and rituals can be performed in Hindi, Sanskrit, or English, catering to a wide range of visitors. The temple observes a modest dress code for both men and women, recommending covered shoulders and legs and advising against shorts or revealing attire.

Chitrakoot Ram Ghat Temple is a vibrant centre during major festivals such as Ram Navami (March-April), Deepawali (October-November), Amavasya Mela (monthly on the new moon), Shravan Jhoola Mela (August), and the Ramayan Mela.

During these times, bhandaras (free community meals) are organized, and prasadam like peda and misri are commonly distributed. Reaching the temple is convenient, with Chitrakoot Dham Karwi railway station (CKTD) just 8 km away.

From the station, visitors can hire an auto-rickshaw or taxi to Sitapur, the main temple town area, with a journey time of 15–30 minutes. Chitrakoot Airport (Dewangna) is 12 km away, while Prayagraj and Khajuraho airports are also accessible.

Ample accommodation is available nearby, including ashrams, Dharamshalas, and hotels such as Hotel Yatrika and Bindiram by ShriGo Hotels. Parking is available near the ghat, though it can become crowded during festivals, and some areas offer better wheelchair access.

Photography is permitted, provided visitors maintain respectful conduct during prayers. For those wishing to explore further, attractions like Kamadgiri Temple, Hanuman Dhara, Sphatik Shila, Janki Kund, Gupt Godavari, and Ram Darshan are located within a short distance. For more information, visitors can refer to the official website.
