Sakshi Gopal Temple

Situated near Sakhigopal Railway Station in Sakhigopal, Puri district, Odisha, this temple stands as a significant spiritual destination for devotees and travelers alike. The temple is an excellent example of Kalinga architecture, reflecting the region’s traditional style and cultural heritage.

Recognized as a state heritage site, its origins are linked by legends to King Vajra, the grandson of Krishna, while historical accounts connect its establishment to Gajapati King Prataparudra Deva.

The temple welcomes visitors daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with the best time to visit being during the winter months from November to February and in the morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM. For darshan, devotees can avail themselves of free entry, making it accessible to all.

The temple observes a strict dress code: men are expected to wear traditional or formal attire such as dhoti, kurta, or full trousers and shirts, while women should opt for sarees or salwar kameez, with revealing clothes strictly avoided within the sacred complex.

A series of daily poojas are conducted in Odia and Sanskrit, beginning with Mangala Aarti from 5:00 AM to 5:30 AM, followed by Bhog Offering between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

The Madhyahna Ritual and Closure take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, Sandhya Aarti is held from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and the Sayana or Night Ritual marks the closing from 8:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

Traditional Mahaprasad, including cooked rice, dal, dry sweets, and fruits, is distributed after the bhog, with special food offerings during major festivals.

Sakshi Gopal Temple is especially vibrant during festivals such as Anla Navami (October–November), Dol Purnima (February–March), Chandan Yatra (April–May), and Kartika Purnima (November).

Pilgrims can reach the temple easily: from Puri, it is an 18 km journey northwest on the Puri-Bhubaneswar highway; from Bhubaneswar, it is about 50 km south. The Sakhigopal Railway Station is just 1 km away, and the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar is 50 km from the temple.
