Puttur Mahalingeshwara Temple

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is also home to other deities including Nandi, Ganapathi, Sri Shanmukha Subrahmanya, and Sri MahaVishnu, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking darshan and blessings.

The temple is situated near the main town area, close to the private bus stand, making it easily accessible for visitors. Pilgrims can reach the temple by taking NH75 from Mangaluru via Pumpwell and Padil, proceeding towards Bantwal (BC Road) and then diverting to Puttur.

Direct buses connect Mangaluru to Puttur, and within the town, auto-rickshaws are available from both the bus stand and the railway station. The nearest railway station is Kabaka Puttur Railway Station (PTKB), just 1 km away, while Mangaluru Central/Junction is about 50 km from the temple.

Mangaluru International Airport (IXE) is the closest airport, located 55 km away. The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

The best time to visit is in the morning between 8 AM and 12 PM, during the evening aarti, festival seasons, annual brahmotsavam, winter months (November to February), or on weekdays when the temple is less crowded.

Devotees are required to follow a traditional dress code: men should wear dhoti or veshti and may need to remove shirts or vests to enter the inner sanctum, while women are expected to wear modest traditional attire such as sarees or churidar with dupatta.

Various poojas are performed in Sanskrit and Kannada, including Sathyanarayana Pooja, Ashlesha Bali, Ranga Pooja, Maha Pooja, Karthika Pooja, Hoovina Pooja, Panchamrutha Abhisheka, Rudrabhisheka, Ashtothara Archane, Haalu Payasa, and Karpoora Arathi, with prices ranging from INR 5 to INR 1500.

Special prasadams like Appa Kajjaya are distributed, and annadanam (free food) is available daily or during special occasions, especially the annual festival.

The temple celebrates a vibrant array of festivals such as the Annual Jaatre/Rathotsava (Chariot Festival) in April, Laksha Deepotsava & Theppotsava during Karthika month, Pookare Uthsava, Bali Festival during Deepavali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Nava Rathri, Shiva Rathri, Nagara Panchami, and Pattananje at the end of May.
