Kadri Manjunath Temple

This temple is dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva and is celebrated for its Dravidian architectural style, reflecting the significant development undertaken by local rulers and the Alupa kings during the 12th–13th centuries.

The temple is a living heritage site managed by a panchayat or local trust, and it continues to attract devotees and visitors throughout the year.

The temple complex houses shrines for several deities besides Lord Shiva, including Goddess Durgaparameshwari, Lord Ayyappa, Lord Ganapathi, Lord Hanuman, and Naga (Serpent) shrines.

Unique to Kadri Manjunath Temple are the images of Avalokiteshvara and Mañjushri, adding to the spiritual richness of the site.

The temple’s sanctum and main sanctuary observe strict rules, with photography strictly prohibited inside, while limited photography may be permitted in the outer courtyard with proper decorum. Kadri Manjunath Temple is open for darshan from 5:40 AM to 1:00 PM and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Free darshan is available to all devotees. The best times to visit are early mornings and during the winter months from November to February, as well as during the vibrant festival season.

The temple celebrates several festivals, including the Annual Festival (Rathothsava) in January starting on Makara Sankranthi, Lakshadeepothsava, and Malaraya Daiva Nemothsava.

Devotees can participate in a variety of poojas, such as Maha Pooja, Bellirathothsava Seve, Vasantha Pooja, Dhanu Pooja, Navagraha Pooja, Kalasha Snana, Ashwatha Pooja, Aparakriya Kanike, Thula Bhara, Hannnukai, Navagraha Japas, Rudrabhishek (7:30 AM – 12:30 PM), Satyanarayan Pooja, and Ganahoma.

Poojas are conducted in Kannada, and the temple offers free lunch (Annadanam) daily from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM. For visitors, Kadri Temple Yatri Niwas provides accommodation on the premises, and there are numerous hotels within 3–5 km in Mangaluru city center.

The temple is easily accessible: it is 3–4 km north of Mangaluru city center (Hampankatta) and can be reached by taxi, auto-rickshaw, or city bus.
