Kukke Subramanya Temple

Set against the scenic backdrop of hills and the Kumaradhara River, this ancient temple is renowned for its spiritual significance and Kerala-style architecture.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, worshipped here as Subramanya, and is also associated with deities such as Vasuki, Adi Subramanya, and Samputa Narasimha. Its unique identity as the “Serpent Abode” draws devotees seeking blessings and relief from Sarpa Dosha.

The temple’s darshan timings are from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM and again from 3:30 PM to 8:30 PM, making early mornings (5–8 AM) and the winter months (November to February) ideal for a peaceful visit.

The temple is especially vibrant during festival seasons, with Subramanya Sashti (October-November), Naga Panchami (July-August), and Champa Shashti (November-December) celebrated with devotion.

Kukke Subramanya Temple is known for its special poojas, notably the Sarpa Samskara, a two-day ritual starting at 8:00/8:30 AM, and Ashlesha Bali performed on Ashlesha Nakshatra days.

Other important sevas include Mahapooja (10:30 AM – 12:00 PM, 7:00 PM – 7:45 PM), Prarthana Seva (around 12:00 PM and 7:30 PM), Thulabharam, Mantapotsava, and Dolotsava. Poojas are conducted in Sanskrit and Kannada.

Free darshan is available for all devotees, and the temple provides free lunch and dinner (annadanam) daily.

A traditional dress code is observed: men are required to remove shirts and vests before entering the main sanctum and are encouraged to wear a dhoti or veshti, while women are advised to wear sarees or chudidhars.

Photography is strictly prohibited inside the sanctum, and cameras or phones are generally not allowed in the main temple area. Reaching Kukke Subramanya Temple is convenient via road and rail. From Bengaluru, take NH75 towards Hassan/Sakleshpur and follow signs to Subrahmanya.

From Mangaluru, travel via NH75 and BC Road. The nearest railway station is Subrahmanya Road (SBHR), 13 km away, with KSRTC buses, autos, and taxis available for the final stretch. Mangaluru International Airport is the closest airport at 105 km.
