About

Kateel Durgaparameshwari Temple is a revered Shakti Peetha and pilgrimage centre located on the scenic banks of a river in Kateel, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka.

Also known locally as Kateel Devi, Sri Durgaparameshwari, or Kateelu, this ancient temple is dedicated to Goddess Shakti (Amman) and is recognized for its Kerala-style architecture. The temple is a living heritage site, drawing devotees from across the region who seek blessings and spiritual solace.

The presiding deity is Goddess Durgaparameshwari, with shrines for other deities including Mahaganapathi, Shasthara (Lord Ayyappa), Kshethrapalaka, Nagasannidhi, Goddess Chamundi, Raktheshwari, and Lord Brahma.

The temple is open for darshan from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with free darshan available to all devotees.

The best times to visit are early morning (5–8 AM), during evening aarti, or during the vibrant festival season, especially the annual Brahmakalashotsava held in April.

A variety of poojas are performed daily in Sanskrit and Kannada, including Kumkumarchane, Hoovina Pooja (Flower Pooja), Sahasranamarchane, Durga Namaskara, Panchamritha Abhishekha, Ranga Pooja, Maha Pooja, Thulabhara Seva, Annadana Seva, Maha Annadana Seva, Panchakajjaya, and Karpooraarthi.

Prices for these rituals range from INR 40 to INR 20,000, allowing devotees to participate according to their devotion and means.

The temple celebrates several major festivals such as Brahmakalashotsava (April), Laksha Deepotsavam (Kartik Bahula Panchami), Navaratri (October), Vasantotsava (Spring), and Naga Panchami (August), attracting large gatherings of pilgrims.

Free lunch and dinner (annadanam) are provided daily, and devotees can also receive Panchakajjaya and Laddu as prasadam. For those planning a visit, Kateel Durgaparameshwari Temple is easily accessible.

From Mangaluru, one can take NH66 towards Udupi, with clear signboards leading to Kateel, or use direct private and KSRTC buses from Mangaluru State Bank.

The temple is about 16 km from Mangaluru International Airport, and nearby railway stations include Mulki (8 km), Surathkal (15 km), and Mangaluru Central/Junction (25 km).

Accommodation is available at the temple’s Annapoorna Guest House with advance booking, as well as in nearby Kinnigoli and the cities of Mangaluru and Surathkal.

Devotees are advised to wear modest, traditional attire—dhotis or formal pants for men, and sarees, salwar kameez, or long skirts for women. Dedicated parking is available, though it can be crowded on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Photography is not permitted inside the inner sanctum, and cameras must be deposited at secure counters. For more information, online darshan, or bookings, visit the official website at www.kateeldevi.in or contact +91 824 2200361.
