Puttingal Devi Temple

Dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman), the temple also enshrines Lord Shiva, Lord Sastha (Ayyappa), Lord Ganapathy, Moorti, and Vasurimala, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings from multiple deities.

The temple is noted for its distinct Kerala-style architecture and serves as a focal point for community devotion, with its origins rooted in worship around a sacred anthill.

Managed by a local panchayat trust, Puttingal Devi Temple is not attributed to any specific dynasty, reflecting the collective faith of the region.

Devotees can visit the temple during its daily timings: morning darshan is available from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and evening darshan from 5:00 PM to 7:45 PM.

Early morning hours (5–8 AM), morning (8 AM–12 PM), and evening aarti time are considered the best periods for darshan, especially during the winter months (November to February) and festival seasons. The temple offers free darshan to all visitors.

Several poojas are conducted daily, including Nirmalya Darshanam up to 5:15 AM, Usha Pooja at 8:30 AM, Deeparadhana (Evening Aarti) at sunset, and Athazha Pooja at 7:30 PM.

Special poojas such as Panchamrutham, Shiva Pooja, Kunkumabhishekam, Ashtottaram, Sahasranamam, and Thulabharam are available for a nominal fee of ₹50 each. Rituals are performed in Sanskrit and Malayalam, preserving the temple’s traditional ethos.

Major festivals celebrated here include Meenabharani Maholsavam (March–April), Thottam Pattu Season (mid-November to March–April), and Navarathri (September–October).

During these times, mass annadanam is organized, and traditional prasadam such as Aval, Malar, tender coconut water, vibhuti, sandalwood paste, and kunkumam is distributed.

The temple maintains a strict dress code: men are expected to wear traditional Kerala attire (mundu/dhoti), while women should wear saree, traditional skirt and blouse, or salwar kameez/churidar with dupatta.

Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum and core premises. Reaching the temple is convenient: it is just 1.2 km from Paravur Railway Station and about 800 m–1 km from the Paravur Municipal Bus Stand.

KSRTC and private buses connect Paravur with Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. Parking is ample, with spacious open grounds available. Accommodation options in Paravur include Fragrant Nature Backwater Resort & Ayurveda Spa and Aquasserenne, both within 5 km.
