Anandavalleeswaram Temple

Dedicated primarily to Lord Shiva, this temple stands as a significant spiritual destination for devotees in the region.

The temple also houses shrines for other deities including Goddess Parvati, Sree Krishna, Maha Vishnu, Bhoomi Devi, Lakshmi Devi, Lord Ganesha, Lord Murugan, Lord Ayyappa, Lord Hanuman, and the Naga Devathas, making it a vibrant hub for worshippers of various traditions.

The temple is renowned for its beautiful Kerala-style architecture and is recognized as a living heritage temple managed by a local trust. Although the exact historical period of its origin is unknown or disputed, it is attributed mythologically to sage Parashurama.

The Anandavalleeswaram Temple is especially lively during its annual temple festival (Utsavam) held in March–April (Meenam), Maha Shivaratri in February–March, Navarathri in September–October, and Mandala Makaravilakku from November to January.

These festivals draw large crowds, and annadanam (free food) is offered to devotees during major celebrations. The temple is open daily with timings from 5:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. The best time to visit is early morning between 5–8 AM or during the evening aarti.

Free darshan is available for all visitors, and poojas such as Abhishekam, Ganapathy Homam, Mrithyunjaya Homam, Ashtotharchana, Muzhukappu, and Pushpanjali are conducted in Sanskrit and Malayalam. Standard prasadam includes vibhuti, kumkum, chandan, and blessed flowers.

Devotees are expected to adhere to a traditional dress code: men should wear a Kerala dhoti (mundu) with the upper body bare or modestly covered, and shirts and pants are not allowed in the inner sanctum.

Women are required to wear a saree or salwar kameez/churidar with a dupatta; modern revealing clothes are not permitted. Reaching the temple is convenient, as it is just 2.5 km from Kollam Junction Railway Station.

Visitors can exit the station, travel northeast to Chinnakkada, proceed towards the Kollam District Collectorate and Kaankathu Mukku, and arrive at Anandavalleeswaram near the civil station area. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is the nearest airport, located 66 km away.

Parking is available near the temple gates and neighborhood streets, though it can be congested during festivals. For accommodation, several hotels such as Terratone Boutique Business Hotel, Chandra Inn, The Leela Ashtamudi, and Dfort Hotel Kollam are within a 2.5–3.3 km radius.
