About

Oachira Parabrahma Temple, also known locally as Parabrahmam Temple, Dakshina Kashi, Omkaramurthy Kshetram, Om-Chira, and Uvachanchira, is a unique pilgrimage centre situated in the Ochira Road area of Oachira, Kollam district, Kerala.

Renowned for its ancient origins and communal spiritual significance, the temple stands apart as it is not attributed to any single monarch or architect but has evolved as a living heritage temple under the stewardship of the local panchayat and trust.

The temple is dedicated to the concept of Parabrahma, with other deities such as Lord Ayyappa, Yakshi, and the Sacred Bulls (Oachirakkaala) also revered here.

The temple’s open grounds, shaded by ancient banyan trees, create a distinctive spiritual atmosphere, and the architecture does not conform to traditional Kerala temple styles, reflecting its unique status. Oachira Parabrahma Temple is open 24 hours, allowing devotees to seek darshan at any time.

Specific pooja timings are from 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Free darshan is available for all visitors.

Various poojas are performed in Malayalam and Sanskrit, including Archana, Neyvilakku (ghee lamp), Koovala Mala (bael leaf garland), Jaladhara, Palabhishekam, Karikku Abhishekam, Neelanjanm, Sathyam (Oath), Kavadi Abhishegam, Ettukandam Urulicha, Choroonu (first rice-feeding), Thulabhalam, Adima, Udayasthamaya Vilakku, Veetuvathukal Urulcha, Ramayana/Bhagavatha Parayanam, Urukkale Nadakkiruthal, and Vidyarambham.

Pooja prices range from ₹10 to ₹2001. The temple is especially vibrant during major festivals such as Oachirakkali in June, Panthrandu Vilakku (Vrischikotsavam) from mid-November to early December, and Irupathattam Onam (Kalakettu) in September-October.

During these times, free vegetarian meals and kanji (rice porridge) are served, and sacred mud (mannu) from banyan tree roots is distributed as prasadam.

Visitors are expected to follow a traditional dress code: men should wear mundu or dhoti, preferably bare-chested or with simple upper-body attire, while women are advised to wear saree, salwar kameez with dupatta, or traditional skirt and blouse.

Reaching Oachira Parabrahma Temple is convenient via NH 66, with regular KSRTC and private buses from Kollam, Kochi, Alappuzha, Kayamkulam, and Karunagappally. The nearest railway station is Oachira (2.1 km), with Kayamkulam Junction (6 km) and Karunagappally (10 km) also nearby.

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (105 km) and Cochin International Airport (120 km) are the closest airports. Ample free parking and wheelchair-accessible entrances are available, though the terrain is natural and unpaved.

Accommodation options include hotels and lodges in Oachira and nearby areas, such as Royale Regency, Sreelakshmi Residency, Hotel Highway Palace, and Lake Bay Resort, as well as homestays in Munroe Island and the backwaters.

Nearby attractions include Krishnapuram Palace, Amritapuri, Sasthamcotta Lake, Munroe Island, and Kollam Beach with Thangassery Lighthouse. For more information, visit the official website or contact the temple office at +91 476 269 0721.
