Polali Rajarajeshwari Temple

Dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman), this temple is a significant pilgrimage centre and stands as a living heritage site, renowned for its Dravidian architectural style.

The temple also houses shrines for Subramanya, Bhadrakali, Mahaganapathi, Saraswathi, and Agasteshwara (Shiva), making it a spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings from multiple deities.

The temple is open to devotees daily from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM and again from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM, with the best time to visit being early morning between 5–8 AM, during evening aarti, in the winter months (November to February), or during the vibrant festival season and the annual brahmotsavam.

Free darshan is available for all visitors, and the temple maintains a traditional dress code: men are required to wear traditional attire and may need to remove shirts and vests for close darshan, while women are expected to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or other traditional Indian attire.

Polali Rajarajeshwari Temple offers a variety of poojas in both Sanskrit and Kannada. The Morning Pooja is performed at 8:30 AM, followed by the Mahapooja at 12:30 PM (with a fee of ₹200), and the Night Pooja at 8:30 PM.

Other special poojas include Soundarya Lahari (₹100), Durga Namaskara (₹120), Khadga Maalarchana (₹120), and Gayathri Pooja (₹120).

Devotees can also partake in the daily free lunch (annadanam) served between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM, and receive special kumkum prasadam prepared from the mud of the deity.

The temple celebrates several festivals throughout the year, including the Annual Festival (Jatra) and Polali Chendu (Football Festival) in March, Navarathri in September–October, Deepavali in October–November, Laksha Deepotsava during Karthika month, Mahashivarathri in February–March, Souramana Ugadi in March–April, and Dhanurmasotsava in December–January.

Reaching the temple is convenient, with directions from Mangalore city center via Farangipete or Gurupura, and local buses (Bus #12) running from State Bank Mangalore to the temple gate.

Mangalore International Airport is just 15 km away, while the nearest railway stations are Bantawala (15 km), Mangalore Central/Junction (19 km), and Surathkal (25 km). Ample parking is available, and the temple is accessible by road and local buses.
