About

Panachikkadu Saraswathy Temple, also known as Dakshina Mookambika or Panachikkad Maha Vishnu Kshetram, is a revered ancient temple and pilgrimage centre situated in Panachikkad, Kottayam district, Kerala.

Nestled along Eravinalloor - Panachikkad Temple Road, Kuzhimattom P.O., this temple is renowned for its Kerala-style architecture and tranquil village setting.

The temple’s primary deity is Lord Vishnu, and it also houses shrines for Goddess Saraswati, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganapathi, Lord Ayyappan, Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, and Panachikkadu Yakshi, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings from multiple deities.

The temple is open for darshan daily from 5:30 AM to 11:00 AM and from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Free darshan is available for all visitors. The best time to visit is during the early morning hours or the winter months from November to February, as well as during the vibrant festival season.

The temple observes a strict dress code: men must wear a dhoti (veshti) and remain bare-chested above the waist, while women are expected to wear a saree, skirt and blouse, or churidar with dupatta. Jeans, shorts, and revealing outfits are not permitted inside the sanctum.

Panachikkadu Saraswathy Temple is especially popular during festivals such as Navarathri/Saraswathi Pooja in September-October, Vidyarambham on Vijayadashami, monthly Masapooja, and Aswathi festival days.

Poojas are conducted in Sanskrit and Malayalam, with a wide range of offerings including Archana, Pushpanjali, Saraswathy Pooja, Vidyasooktharchana, Maha Ganapathi Homa, Bhagavatiseva, Janmanakshatra Pooja, Saraswathi Seva, Thulabhara, Namakaranam, Choronu (Annaprasanam), and various para offerings.

Prasadam includes theertham (holy spring water), sandal paste, payasam, and consecrated books or turmeric, with annadanam provided during major festivals. Reaching the temple is convenient from Kottayam or Chingavanam via Main Central Road.

From Kottayam, travel 7-9 km towards Chingavanam/Eravinalloor and follow signboards to Panachikkadu Temple. Auto-rickshaws and local buses are available from Kottayam Railway Station or KSRTC Bus Stand.

The nearest railway stations are Chingavanam (4 km), Kottayam (10 km), and Changanassery (13 km), while Cochin International Airport is 95 km away. Photography and videography are strictly prohibited inside the premises and near the sanctum or pond area.

Adequate parking is available, though it may be congested during festivals. For accommodation, visitors can find standard lodging in Chingavanam and Kottayam town, with options like The Palms Hotel Chingavanam, Park Residency Puthuppally, The Windsor Castle, Hotel Aida, and Hotel Arcadia.

Nearby attractions include Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple, Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary & Backwaters, Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls, and Vaikom Mahadeva Temple. For more information, visit the official website or contact the temple directly.
