About

Kumaranalloor Devi Temple, also known locally as Kumaranalloor Karthyayani Devi Temple, is a renowned ancient temple and pilgrimage centre located in Kumaranalloor, Kottayam, Kerala.

Revered for its Kerala-style architecture and state heritage status, the temple is dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman), with sanctums for other deities including Lord Ganesha, Lord Subrahmanya, Nagaraja, Lord Shiva, Bhadrakali, and Lord Manibhooshanan (Ayyappa).

The temple is also referred to by names such as Thingalkkadu, Indu Kaananam, and Mahishari Kovil. Devotees can experience darshan at Kumaranalloor Devi Temple during its daily timings: 4:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 5:30 PM to 7:45 PM. Entry for darshan is free.

The temple observes a strict dress code: men are required to wear traditional Kerala attire (mundu) and must remove upper garments before entering the inner sanctum, while women should wear sarees or salwar kameez/churidar with dupatta; western or short outfits are not permitted.

A variety of poojas are performed in Sanskrit and Malayalam, including Ethruthe Pooja (Randam Pooja) at 6:30 AM, Prabhata Sreebali from 6:50 AM to 7:10 AM, Pantheeradi Pooja at 8:00 AM, and Navakam, Panchagavyam & Madhyahnapooja from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM.

Special offerings such as Manjal Abhishekam and Manjal Kumbhabhishekam are available, along with standard archana, pushpanjali, naivedyam, and namaskaram.

The best time to visit is during winter (November to February), during the festival season, annual brahmotsavam, or during early morning and evening aarti times.

Major festivals celebrated here include Thrikkarthika (November–December), Navaratri (September–October), Midhuna Masa Karthika (July), and the monthly Aayilya Pooja.

Reaching the temple is convenient: from Kottayam town or railway station, head north on MC Road toward Ettumanoor for about 4 km to Kumaranalloor Junction, turn left onto Kumaranalloor Temple Road, and proceed about 1 km to the temple gates.
