Nilamadhaba Temple Kantilo

Renowned for its ancient roots and spiritual significance, this temple complex is dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, worshipped here as Nilamadhaba.

The temple is also home to shrines for Lord Siddheswar (Shiva), Lord Kashi Vishwa, and Goddess Bimala (Maa Bimala), making it a unique confluence of Vaishnavite and Shaivite traditions.

The Nilamadhava-Siddheswar temple complex, also known locally as Beni-Madhava, stands as a fine example of Kalinga architecture. Its picturesque location atop the hills and beside the river creates a tranquil atmosphere for devotees and visitors alike.

The temple is recognized as a living heritage site and is managed by a panchayat or local trust, reflecting its ongoing importance in the community. Darshan at Nilamadhaba Temple Kantilo is accessible to all, with free entry as well as options for special, VIP, and seeghra (quick) darshan.

The temple is open daily from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM and again from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, allowing ample time for pilgrims to seek blessings.

The best time to visit is during the winter months (November to February), especially in the early morning hours or during evening aarti, as well as throughout the vibrant festival season. Poojas and rituals are conducted in both Sanskrit and Odia, maintaining the temple’s traditional practices.

Daily worship includes the Morning Aarti at 6:00 AM and the Evening Aarti at 6:00 PM. Special poojas such as Bhabishya & Dhoop Aarti and the Bada Sringar Besha, performed on full-moon and festive days, draw large gatherings of devotees.

Major festivals celebrated here include Magha Saptami (Ratha Saptami) in January–February, Ratha Yatra in June–July, and Pausa Purnima in December–January.

Devotees are encouraged to dress modestly; men should wear traditional attire like dhoti-kurta or long trousers with a clean shirt, while women are advised to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or modest kurtis.

Photography is permitted in the outer premises and viewpoints but is strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum (garbhagriha). For those arriving by vehicle, there is adequate parking available near the foothill areas for a nominal fee.

Access to the temple requires climbing stairs or a slope, with limited wheelchair accessibility. Traditional Odia Mahaprasad and dry sweets or rice-based offerings are available, and large-scale annadanam is organized during major festivals.
