Megheswar Temple

It was commissioned by Swapnesvara, the brother-in-law of Ganga King Rajaraja II, during the reign of King Anangabhima II of the Eastern Ganga dynasty. Recognized as an ASI protected monument, Megheswar Temple draws devotees and history enthusiasts alike to its sacred and historic grounds.

The temple welcomes visitors daily from 4:00 AM to 8:00 PM, offering free darshan to all. The best time to visit Megheswar Temple is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM), in the winter months from November to February, or during the vibrant festival season.

Major festivals celebrated here include Maha Shivaratri (February-March), Ashokastami (March-April), and Sitalsasthi (May-June), when the temple comes alive with rituals and festivities.

Daily worship includes the sacred Aarti and Rudrabhisheka, performed in Odia and Sanskrit, allowing devotees to immerse themselves in spiritual practices. A traditional dress code is observed at Megheswar Temple.

Men are encouraged to wear dhotis, kurtas, or clean trousers and shirts, while shorts and sleeveless tops are discouraged. Women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or modest kurtis. Footwear must be removed before entering the temple premises.
