About

Ananta Vasudeva Temple, also known locally as Ananta Basudeva Mandira (ଅନନ୍ତ ବାସୁଦେବ ମନ୍ଦିର), is a revered ancient temple and pilgrimage centre situated on the banks of Bindusagar Lake in Old Town, Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

Dedicated primarily to Lord Vishnu, the temple also enshrines Lord Krishna, Lord Balarama, and Goddess Subhadra, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees of Vaishnavism.

The temple stands as an exemplary specimen of Kalinga architecture and is recognized as both an ASI protected monument and a state heritage site. The Ananta Vasudeva Temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM, offering devotees ample time for darshan and participation in various Sanskrit poojas.

The daily rituals include Mangala Aarti, Mailam, Abhyanga, Surja Puja, Dwarapala Puja, and regular Bhog offerings.

Free darshan entry is available to all visitors, and the temple is especially vibrant during major festivals such as Janmashtami, Radhashtami, Jhulan Yatra, Dola Purnima (Holi), and Karthika Purnima.

Mahaprasad (Abhada) is served daily during lunch hours for a nominal fee, while free mass annadanam is organized during major festivals, allowing pilgrims to partake in the sacred prasadam.

For those planning a visit, the best time to experience the temple’s serene atmosphere is during the early morning hours (5–8 AM) or in the winter months from November to February.

The temple maintains a traditional dress code: men are encouraged to wear dhotis, kurtas, or full-length trousers and shirts, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or other modest ethnic attire. Reaching Ananta Vasudeva Temple is convenient.

Visitors can arrive in Bhubaneswar by air, train, or major highways. From there, head to Old Town (Ekamra Kshetra) via Keshari Nagar or Rath Road. The temple is located on the eastern embankment of Bindusagar Lake, with its spires visible from the lake road.

Local auto-rickshaws and app-based cabs offer easy drop-offs at the temple gates. The nearest railway stations are Lingaraj Temple Road Station (2.5 km) and Bhubaneswar Railway Station (4 km), while Biju Patnaik International Airport is just 4 km away.

Accommodation options include OTDC Panthanivas, Dalmia Dharmasala, and various local guesthouses around Old Town and Bindusagar Lake. While photography is strictly prohibited inside the main sanctum, visitors may capture memories in the outer temple grounds and courtyard.

Street-side and municipal parking are available nearby, though a short walk is required to reach the temple entrance.

The temple’s proximity to other iconic landmarks such as Lingaraj Temple, Mukteshwar Temple, Rajarani Temple, and Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves makes it an essential stop for any spiritual or heritage tour of Bhubaneswar. For inquiries, devotees may contact the temple at +91-8249311974.
