Gupteswar Cave Temple

This ancient cave temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, attracting devotees and spiritual seekers from across the region. The temple is renowned for its unique cave architecture and the tranquil, natural setting atop a hill, making it both a spiritual and scenic destination.

Within the cave, the primary deity is Lord Shiva, and there is also veneration of Kamadhenu, the divine cow, represented as a stalactite formation.

The temple is a significant site for pilgrims, especially during the major festivals of Maha Shivaratri (February–March) and Shraavana Somvar/Bol Bam Yatra (July–August), when the temple comes alive with special poojas and large gatherings.

The best time to visit is during the winter months from November to February, or early in the morning between 5 and 8 AM, to experience the serene atmosphere and participate in rituals. Darshan at Gupteswar Cave Temple is free for all visitors.

The temple is open from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and again from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, allowing ample opportunity for devotees to seek blessings. Poojas performed here include Abhisheka, Archana, and the Sandhya Aarti, which takes place at 7:00 PM.

Rituals are conducted in Odia, Hindi, and Telugu, catering to the diverse pilgrim base. Simple prasadam such as dry fruits, sugar crystals, flowers, and bilva leaves is distributed daily, with large-scale annadanam organized during Maha Shivaratri and Shraavana Mondays.

Visitors are expected to follow a traditional dress code: men should wear dhoti, kurta, or full trousers with shirts, while women are encouraged to wear sarees, salwar kameez, or ethnic attire. Pilgrims can arrive at Jeypore or Koraput via NH 26, then proceed towards Boipariguda village and continue to the shrine’s foothills. Parking is available at the base, but visitors must climb steep stone stairs to enter the cave, which is not wheelchair accessible.

The nearest railway stations are Jeypore (57 km) and Koraput (80 km), while Jeypore Airport is 58 km away and Visakhapatnam International Airport is 200 km away.
