About

Kualo Ganesh Temple, located in Kualo Village near Parjang in Dhenkanal district, Odisha, is an ancient riverbank temple complex revered as a significant pilgrimage centre.

Recognized as an ASI-protected monument, this temple is also known locally by several names, including Ashtashambhu Temple Complex, Kanakeswar Panchayatana Temple, Astasambhu Temples, Kualo Temple, and Kodalaka Mandala.

The temple stands out for its distinctive Kalinga architectural style and its serene setting along the river, making it a tranquil destination for devotees and heritage enthusiasts alike.

The primary deity worshipped here is Lord Shiva, and the complex is home to several other shrines dedicated to deities such as Swapneswar, Aisneswar, Kapileswar, Baidhyanatheswar, Baneswar, Lokanatheswar, Uttareswara, Kanakadurga, and Lord Ganesha.

The temple is particularly vibrant during major festivals like Maha Shivaratri (February-March), Shravana Mondays (Bol Bom) in July-August, and Kartika Purnima/Jagara in November, when devotees gather for special rituals and celebrations.

Darshan at Kualo Ganesh Temple is free for all visitors, and the temple is open daily from 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Pujas are conducted in Sanskrit, maintaining the traditional spiritual atmosphere.

The recommended dress code encourages modest, traditional attire: men are advised to wear dhoti, kurta, or full-length trousers, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or churidars. Revealing clothes and shorts are discouraged to maintain the sanctity of the temple.

Reaching the temple is convenient for pilgrims traveling from Bhubaneswar or Cuttack, who can arrive by train or flight and then proceed to Dhenkanal or Talcher via NH-55. From Talcher (15 km away) or Parjang, local auto-rickshaws, taxis, or buses can be hired to reach Kualo Village.

The nearest railway stations are Talcher (15 km) and Dhenkanal (57 km), while the closest airport is Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, approximately 133 km away.

For accommodation, visitors will find standard and budget lodging options in Talcher and Dhenkanal, such as Hotel RK Regency, Nirupama Dhenkanal Hotel, and Hotel Sakuntala. The temple provides open, unpaved parking, though large vehicles may need to park further away due to narrow rural roads.

Photography is allowed in the outer courtyard and exterior premises, but strictly prohibited inside the inner sanctum. Standard prasad like dry sweets and fruits is distributed, with larger annadanam events mainly during major festivals.

Nearby attractions include Talcher, Saranga Temple, Kapilash Temple & Sanctuary, Joranda Mahima Gadi, and Dhenkanal Palace, offering pilgrims and tourists a rich cultural itinerary in the region.
