Murugan Temple (Palani), also known as Palani Murugan Kovil or Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple, is a renowned hill temple and pilgrimage centre located in the Palani Hills near Adivaram, in the city of Palani, Dindigul district, Tamil Nadu.

This ancient temple, dedicated to Lord Murugan (Dhandayuthapani Swamy), is celebrated for its Dravidian architecture and holds a significant place among devotees seeking darshan and spiritual solace. The temple is easily accessible for pilgrims and visitors.

Palani town can be reached by train, bus, or car, with Palani Railway Station just 1 km from the temple base at Adivaram. From there, devotees can either walk or take an auto to the base, then ascend the hill via steps, winch, or rope car.

For those arriving by air, Coimbatore International Airport (105 km) and Madurai International Airport (120 km) are the nearest options, with taxis and buses available to Palani. Murugan Temple (Palani) is open daily from 5:30 AM to 9:30 PM, making it convenient for devotees to plan their darshan.

The best time to visit is early morning between 5 and 8 AM, during the evening aarti, or in the winter months from November to February. The temple offers both free and special darshan options, with special darshan tickets available at INR 20, 100, and 300.

Poojas are conducted in Tamil and Sanskrit, with the first Vila Pooja performed at 5:30 AM. The Golden Chariot (Thanga Ther) is a special pooja held on Sundays, with a ticket price of INR 1000.

Devotees can also partake in the temple’s prasadam, with Panchamrutham available and free Annadanam (meals) served from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The temple observes several important festivals, including Thai Poosam (January-February), Kandhar Shasti (October-November), and Vaikasi Visagam (May-June).

Dress code is strictly enforced: men are required to wear a dhoti with shirt, pajama, or pants, while women are encouraged to wear saree, churidar, or salwar kameez.

For accommodation, temple-managed guest houses such as Dhandapani Nilayam and Idumbar Kudilkal, along with many private hotels near Adivaram, are available for pilgrims. Parking is convenient, with both paid and free options at Adivaram, and the temple is wheelchair accessible.
